When fate plays its hand

Chapter 686

GET IT NO

Sam noticed Miranda trembling all over. He immediately took off his jacket and prepared to drape it over

her shoulders.

Paul interjected, “Your jacket is wet too. It’s better to use mine.”

As he spoke, he had already unzipped his windbreaker and gently draped it over Miranda.

Sam was at a loss for words.

Miranda was shivering from the cold. Although she was drinking warm water and had changed into clean clothes, the chill seemed to seep into her bones. Instead of dissipating, it grew more and more intense.

Later that night, the rain fell once more. It was a soft and continuous drizzle. Unlike a sudden downpour with thunder and lightning, this rain was long and lingering, accompanied by a howling wind.

The gazebo only had a roof supported by four pillars. There were no walls for shelter. When the wind blew, it struck them directly.

Miranda’s voice trembled, “I’m… so cold…”

She wore Paul’s jacket and hugged herself tightly, but she could feel the warmth draining rapidly from her body. Her eyelids grew heavier. Even though she was exhausted, she simply couldn’t sleep when she closed her eyes..

Seeing her condition, Sam took off his wool sweater and draped it over Miranda despite the bitter wind.

Paul didn’t stop him. He silently took out a mercury thermometer from his bag. “I suspect she might be having a fever.”

Meanwhile, Hansel was

speeding at almost 75 miles per hour. He raced to the National Botanical Gardens as fast as he could.

Tina happened to be waiting at the main gates. She watched as a sports car flew by, followed by a sharp screech of brakes as it pulled to a stop.

The next second, Hansel stepped out with a tense expression on his face. He strode straight to Tina and fixed a sharp gaze on her. “Where is Miranda? Where is she?”

Seeing how intimidating her older brother was, Tina didn’t dare to play any tricks and honestly told him the situation. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

After listening to her explanation, Hansel marched directly to the control room.

The director, Emery Fowler, had no time to grasp the situation when Hansel barged in. Hansel grabbed. him by the collar and hauled him up into the air. No one knew how much strength he exerted to lift the

htly overweight, middle–aged man in the air just like that.

Emery stammered, “You… Are you a student from Bedford College? Let’s talk this out calmly, don’t resort to violence! I know you’re worried about your classmate, but this is not a place you can simply intrude. Don’t worry. We’re doing our best to conduct the rescue. Now, please go out…”

Hanse! sneered, “Are you telling me to leave? If it weren’t for your mistakes and poor rescue efforts, how could Miranda still be trapped in there? You’d better open the door immediately. Otherwise, if this issue blows up, no one will get away unscathed!”

Emery was visibly frustrated. “I don’t care who you are. I’ve already explained that the early warning system isn’t something that can be easily bypassed. Besides, I’ve already called in our best technicians. We’re just waiting for him to arrive…”

Hansel interrupted him impatiently and enunciated each word, “Do you not understand what I’m saying? I want you to get her out immediately, right now!”

Emery was at a loss for words. What the hell? Had this man read too many romance novels? Did he think he could be a hero if he acted like one? Which psychiatric hospital let a delusional man like him out?

“Security? Security!” he shouted for help.

“I’m saying this one more time. I want to see Miranda return safely within an hour. Otherwise, I’ll make sure this botanical garden will be closed for good!” Hansel threatened before turning around and leaving.

Confused, Emery didn’t know how to respond. Seriously, did he think he looked cool or something?
