Chapter 208
Chapter 208
“Oh and, Harriet’s got the day off today, said she was gonna swing by and hang out with you,” Rhett said, walking a few steps before turning back to look at Kristin.
With Harriet keeping Kristin company, he could rest a bit easier.
Kristin stared at Rhett in shock. Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Before she came here, the butler had made it crystal clear that Mr. FitzGerald was a stickler for cleanliness, cherished his peace and quiet, and absolutely forbade bringing outsiders home. It would enrage Mr. FitzGerald. Yet he… seemed to truly indulge her.
The FitzGerald Group.
“Mr. FitzGerald, you finally came. The chairman wants to fire Kristin. He says her mother made a scene at the office and disrupted our workflow,” Lisa from HR hurried over as soon as she saw Rhett.
“Who said that was Kristin’s mother?” Rhett demanded with a steely voice.
Everyone was stunned. That woman wasn’t Kristin’s mother?
“The chairman’s waiting for you in his office.” Holcomb’s assistant was also there to meet Rhett.
Rhett huffed and headed straight for the elevator.
Holcomb was already sitting in the boardroom, certain that Rhett was going to show up.
“So I hear you want to fire my personal assistant?” Rhett didn’t beat around the bush as he entered the office.
“What’s it to you? Can’t I fire a mere assistant?” Holcomb’s voice was heavy with authority as he slapped the table. “The company’s a mess. What are you doing about it?”
“Exactly what has my assistant done wrong?” Rhett’s icy gaze was fixed on Holcomb.
They were at loggerheads, a true clash of wills, but it was clear that Holcomb’s presence was no match for Rhett’s.
Holcomb naturally backed down, feeling the pressure even in his back.
Rhett was all grown up, ready to rebel.
“Rhett, how can you talk to Dad like this? He’s our father, after all. You should show him respect,” Vincent chimed in from the side, fanning the flames.
“I’m having a conversation with my dad. Since when does a bastard like you get a say?” Rhett didn’t hide his disdain for Vincent.
1. S. what
No matter what his mother had done, just for what Vincent had done to Kristin alone, he deserved to die a
million times over.
“Dad…” Vincent was left speechless by Rhett’s insult and turned to Holcomb for help.
Clearly, Holcomb was at a loss, his face darkening as he was left with nothing to say.
“Get out, you bastard!” Rhett ordered Vincent out, wanting a private word with Holcomb.
“You!” Vincent clenched his fists, furious with Rhett’s audacity.

“Leave us,” Holcomb finally said, asking Vincent to step out.
Vincent left with a dark face, slamming the door behind him.
He was determined to see Rhett utterly defeated, crushed beneath his heel!
He’d just wait and see!
Outside The FitzGerald Group, Garner and Melissa arrived a bit later than Rhett.
“Mom, if you keep doing this, you might get taken away by the police” Garner tried to convince Madge to leave.
“Don’t you turn your back on me. I want to see Kristin. I’m her mother, and I want her to quit her job. I’m not well, and she should come home and take care of me!” Madge continued her tirade, demanding Kristin return home.
Garner stood by Madge’s side. “Mom, I’m giving you one last chance.”
Madge scoffed and kept up her antics.
This time, Melissa was unusually quiet, standing aside with her gaze fixed on Garner.
His face was shadowed, and he looked pitiable.
Born into such a family… how much hardship had he endured, how much injustice had he suffered?
Because the woman causing a scene was Garner’s mother, Melissa didn’t intervene right away. She decided to wait and see how Garner would handle the situation.
“I got sick because of being in jail. I went to prison for her. She has to quit her job and look after me, it’s only fair!” Madge was still shouting.
“If you’re unwell, I’ll quit and take care of you,” Garner said, reaching out to drag Madge away.
Madge threw herself to the ground in a tantrum, refusing to budge and cursing Garner. “You fool, you’re bewitched by that little vixen! You’re so stupid, she goes to jail, and you end up caring for her kid. If it weren’t for that little brat, you’d have a girlfriend by now. Who’d marry you with that baggage?”
Garner stood frozen, shocked by Madge’s words. He began to doubt if Kristin really and his own sister. Otherwise, why would Madge hate Kristin so much?
Kristin was such a kind woman; how could she have ended up with a mother like Madge?
“Are you leaving or not?” Garner’s voice was hoarse.
“I’m not going anywhere!” Madge continued her fit.
Garner nodded. “Fine, then keep it up.”
‘ge’s daughter,
Turning on his heel, Garner dialed the police, reporting a disturbance at The FitzGerald Group’s entrance, interfering with the company’s operations.
Garner knew Rhett didn’t call the police out of consideration for Kristin, and he was aware Holcomb didn’t do it because he wanted Madge to make a scene.
But he could make the call. Having just been released from prison, the last thing Madge wanted was another encounter with the police.
Clearly, Madge never expected her own son to call the cops on her!

Stunned, she lunged at Garner in a frenzy.
Melissa instinctively stepped forward, shielding Garner. Then the slap meant for Garner landed on Melissa’s cheek instead.
Garner’s heart tightened and he instinctively pulled Melissa close to him, directing a furious glare at Madge. “Are you insane? Do you have any idea who she is?”
Madge, provoked by Garner, continued her tirade. “I don’t care who she is. She asked for it by getting in my way!”
Melissa’s brow furrowed slightly, and her eyes darkened for a moment.
She removed her hat and face mask, pointing to her flushed, delicate cheeks.
“Ma’am, do you have any idea how much this face is worth?” Melissa asked, her voice laced with a mix of mockery and seriousness. “There are cameras here, you know. If you hit me, it’s considered assault. My lawyer will be here any minute. I’ll need a medical evaluation, and if, by some unfortunate chance, my eardrum is ruptured or I have sustained any other injury, we’re talking about a lawsuit. Do you have any clue what kind of sentence you’d get, or the compensation you’d owe?”
Melissa looked at Madge icily.
It was clear that Madge still had no idea who Melissa was; her belligerent demeanor hadn’t lessened one
bit.
“Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m the CEO of Garner Enterprises. The $80,000 monthly paycheck Garner enjoys comes from me. His main job is to look after me. My face? It’s insured. And when they signed the contract, it included a clause that if I get injured on his watch, it’s not just a contract termination–we’re talking a payout of three million dollars for damages.”
Melissa flashed three fingers at Madge.
In an instant, Madge quieted down, her eyes wide with shock as they darted between Melissa and Garner, “Is she…the generous boss you mentioned?”
“Yes.” Garner replied, his face stern.
“No… this is all a misunderstanding, miss. I never meant to hit you–look, why don’t you
back?”
Madge was panicking now. She’d worked as a nanny for wealthy families for years and knew how to read
a room.
This Melissa, from head to toe, exuded luxury–her face alone was probably maintained by a fortune’s worth of skincare products.
She couldn’t possibly afford to compensate for any damage.
“Goodness…” Madge started to cry, turning to Garner in desperation. “Garner, please, talk to your boss. You can’t lose your job over this! What am I going to do?”
