When They Beg, I Rise!

Chapter 497

Lemira couldn't help but feel a surge of satisfaction seeing Evelina's dismayed expression.

It was clear as day that Evelina was anything but thrilled about her coming back to the Langston family, especially with Lucian, Caspian, and Alaric rallying by her side.

This was precisely the reaction Lemira had hoped for.

When Evelina posed her question, Asher's discomfort was unmistakable.

Lucian jumped in before Asher could respond, "Asher, haven't you always wanted us to be a close-knit family? Sure, we've had our disagreements, but now Lemmy's willing to bury the hatchet. Alaric and Caspian are cool with it, so let's all just move past this."

Evelina, feeling cornered, argued, "Lucian, but Lemmy's sudden willingness to make amends, who knows what she's up to."

No way was Evelina going to let Lemira waltz back into the Langston family and usurp her spot.

Lucian scoffed, "Lemira is our sister, Ms. Langston. It's only natural for her to want to reconcile. After all, the Langston family is her true home."

Caspian, unable to contain his anger, pointed directly at Evelina and lashed out, "What right do you, a mere chauffeur's daughter, have to question her? You think you can just replace Lemmy and become Ms. Langston? Dream on."

He could clearly see through Evelina's ulterior motives.

Tears welled up in Evelina's eyes as she turned to Asher, "Asher, I never imagined replacing Lemmy as Ms. Langston. I was just worried about her sudden change of heart towards the Langston family, that's all."

Asher reprimanded Caspian, "Eve's father died saving our parents. She's been treated like royalty in the Langston family. She has no reason to compete with Lemira."

"Asher, we've done more than enough for Evelina over the years. Wasn't the accident connected to her father? What debt did he owe the Langston family?"

Caspian's words sent a chill down Lemira's spine, "What do you mean by that?" Could Caspian know something?

Evelina, equally alarmed, quickly defended, "Caspian, what are you talking about? My dad died in that accident. How could it be his fault?"

Deep down, Evelina feared Caspian might know her father was still alive.

Lemira approached Caspian, demanding, "What exactly happened in that accident?"

Caspian continued, "If Evelina's father hadn't been reckless, how could the accident have happened? Wasn't he responsible at all?"

Hearing this, Lemira felt a heavy weight in her heart; it wasn't the answer she hoped for.

Evelina breathed a sigh of relief, glad that her father's secret was safe for now.

She pleaded, "Caspian, my dad was always careful. It was another driver who ran a red light and crashed into his car. How was he to blame?"

"But the accident report showed he didn't brake, and he was speeding. Anyone in their right mind would've hit the brakes, but he didn't!"

Evelina found herself at a loss for words, as she too was unclear about the specifics of the accident.noveldrama

She had asked her father about it, but he refused to discuss it, urging her to drop the matter.

Tearfully, Evelina responded, "Maybe he panicked and couldn't react

time. But talking about someone

who's been gone for years like this, is that really fair?"

"Indeed, it's not," Asher intervened, looking at Caspian. "I've looked into the accident thoroughly, and it was the fault of the driver who hit him.

Evelina's father wasn't to blame."

MS

"Asher, but didn't you once say it was strange he didn't brake?"

"I did, but there could be other reasons, like shock preventing him from braking. Evelina's father is gone now; dwelling on this serves no purpose."

Asher had investigated the incident, and the real culprit was the other driver.

Lemira then spoke up, "What if the brakes on that car had been tampered with?"

If Evelina's father were alive, then it was conceivable he had sabotaged the brakes.
