Chapter 211
Chapter 211 You're Priceless
Who would’ve thought that Aunt Tess was the one who had paid an exorbitant amount of money for someone to kill her? Such a twist would have been deemed too preposterous even for television!
Reality was too cruel.
Now, there was one less person who cared about her. For that matter, there was one less person for her to care about as well. Not that she even had have that many to begin with.
“Who said you were only worth a billion dollars?” Cedric wasn’t pleased with what he heard,
Maia smiled. “Well, how much do you think I’m worth, Cedric?!
“You're priceless,” Cedric said decisively. It was what he genuinely thought.
Maia was startled. Something stirred in her heart when she saw the way he looked at her.
She pulled her eyes away. She didn’t want to continue this vein of conversation, much less meet his affectionate gaze. She said, “The charity event is in less than thirteen hours. I’m a little tired. I'll be going back to my
room to rest,”
“You can do that here.
“That’s not happening. If it’s risky for me to stay in my room, then it's downright
treacherous to stay in your room. Aunt Tess is sleeping soundly and you're wide awake. | much prefer the former.”
Tess was sleeping like a log because of the water she drank. More to the point, Maia was sure she wouldn't do anything to her in the hotel, as she would immediately be the prime suspect. No one in their right mind would be stupid enough to expose themselves that way.
Maia held the doorknob with her right hand and got ready to open the door when Cedric held her left hand and said, “Watch your back at the charity event tonight.
He could not make an appearance at the event because they did not want to rouse Tess’s suspicions. Although he had arranged for his men to infiltrate the event, he couldn't stop himself from worrying about her.
Maia nodded, “If | can’t even handle this, how can | claim to be Rosa’s daughter? | won’t let her down. Never again.” She had never forgotten her mother’s letter. Every word, every sentence was the source of her motivation. She would never give up!
“You might be able to do a good job, but I'll still worry about you nonetheless.”
Maia didn’t answer. She opened the door, shook his hand off, and went back to her room. +15 BONUS

Maia couldn’t understand why, but she kept tossing and turning in bed. She could not fall asleep. Cedric’s words about her being priceless kept repeating in her mind.
She bit her lip, shook her head, and tried to stop herself from thinking about it. She and Cedric were not meant to be. Once bitten, twice shy. She was not about to let history repeat again.
Time passed and Maia slipped into sleep. At the same time, Baz entered Cedric’s room. He saw that his master was sitting on the couch and bowed.
“We've checked the charity event venue thrice, Mr. Cedric. Every piece of equipment has been tested and verified to be safe. We've sent over the vintage watch as well.”
Cedric nodded. “Any news from Jerome?”
“We've liaised with his team as well. Mr. Jerome instructed his men to lend their full
cooperation to us. They’re already in position. Tess isn’t going to know what hit her when you give the order!” Baz replied. “| won't give the order.” Cedric shook his head and said arrogantly, “Maia will. Got it?”
Baz nodded at once and said, “Loud and clear. We'll stand by for Ms. Maia’s orders!”
“Good,” Cedric said sharply.
The Osttahl charity event commenced when night fell. The attendants were composed of members of the upper echelons of the society. They walked on the red carpet and entered the venue in an orderly fashion.Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
Maia tied up her long hair, baring her fair neck, and wore a leather jacket over her black gown. Wearing a pair of high heels, she entered the venue with Tess.
“| never thought that even the chairs would be designed this spectacularly at this venue,” Tess said as she looked at the wave chairs. This was the first time she had seen such a meticulous
design. “That said, Chris’s wife told me that Osttahl was famous for events like this. | that means meticulous designs are the norm here!”

Maia feigned ignorance and said, “Really? I’ve never seen a chair like this.”
She designed this wave chair just for Tess! It would seem that Cedric worked with Chris so his wife would feed this information to Tess incessantly. That would help make her think this was
Every attendant was present and in their seats ten minutes later. Then, the auction began, with items ranging from fine jades to crystal crowns from ages gone by. There were many items for the bidders to purchase, but Tess had shown zero interest so far.
“A pal of ice jade earrings are up for bidding, Aunt Tess. Don’t you like them? | think they would suit you,” Maia said.
Tess shook her head, disinterested, “It’s indeed rare, but the Burgesses have it. Furthermore, the price doesn’t exactly match the value. We're here for Rosa’s watch, so let’s not spend any money on other stuff.”
“You're right. | wonder when they’ll show Mom’s watch?” Maia looked at the stage worriedly. Tess said casually, “Not much longer, now! They’ve shown half of the auction items, after all.”
“Half?” Maia paused. She pretended to be unaware of the matter and asked a leading question on purpose. “How do you know that? | didn’t see an auction item list.”
Tess answered her without missing a beat. “You were looking for our seats when | caught a glance of the list in one of the personnel’s hands just now. It was just a few seconds, but | saw that the ice jade earrings were at the center of it.”
How absurd. There was no such list in this charity event. Tess was so good at lying that it
sounded almost true!
