Chapter 895
Chapter 895
The lipstick was a soft, muted matte rose with a hint of gray, perfectly matching her outfit.
Emelie pursed her lips and said, "You really think of everything."
William put the lipstick in his own pocket and pulled her close, holding her slender back against him. He whispered, "I'm sorry."
Emelie tilted her chin slightly, resting it on his shoulder. "What are you apologizing for this time?"
William's voice was low and muffled. "Back then, I shouldn't have hung up on you."
If he hadn't, maybe their first child could have been saved.
Bringing up the past made Emelie feel heavy-hearted. Some things in life didn't fade away with time.
William sensed her mood and ran his hand down her back, gently easing her tension.
Emelie asked, "So why did you hang up on me?"
William replied, "I don't remember why I did it at the time. Three years ago, I thought about it and went to the phone company to retrieve the call records. I found the exact time I hung up and checked my schedule for that day.
I was at dinner. The people I was with had brought along a newlywed wife, and they were going on and on about their relationship, from school uniforms to wedding gowns..."
"You know how it is, I don't have many fond memories of high school. It reminded me of Wesley, and I wasn't feeling great. Then you called, and I took it out on you by hanging up."
He added, "I'm sorry."
Emelie wasn't entirely satisfied with that explanation, but she had chosen to start over with William and digging into the past would only burden them both.
She stepped out of his embrace and said, "Let's not bring that up again."
William looked at her and nodded. "Okay."
Suddenly, Emelie lifted her hand and patted the top of his head, lazily saying, "Stop overthinking everything. Starting tomorrow, you're not allowed to think about anything or do anything. Your only task is to cooperate with the doctors and follow their treatment."
She placed her hand over his heart. "You're not allowed to die."
William lowered his head. "I'll listen to you. I'll do whatever you say. If you say I won't die, then I won't."
The luncheon lasted until three in the afternoon. Guests could either return to the hotel to rest, be guided around the estate by the staff, or attend Yennifer's tea party.
The evening event, starting at eight, was a buffet-style ball where everyone could socialize and have fun in a more relaxed, festive atmosphere.
However, Emelie decided to take a nap. She needed to be well-rested for the evening's main event.
She woke up around 6:00 pm, ready to redo her makeup and get styled again. The stylist rolled in a rack of dresses and asked which one she wanted to wear.
Emelie glanced over the options. "I want the dark blue velvet one."
The stylist pulled out the dress, hesitated a bit, and then looked at it again.
Emelie's features were naturally striking and cool, making her seem somewhat unapproachable. This dress had a strapless design, with long sleeves that exposed her neck and shoulders, adorned with diamonds on the chest. It was glamorous and commanding.
It was a stunning dress, but it didn't really scream joyful bride. She looked more like a queen.
"What about this little black dress? It has a layer of shimmering tulle underneath that peeks out when you walk, like a streak of stardust in the night. It would also go perfectly with the diamond hair clip Ms. Thornton gave you," the stylist said.
"I'll wear the dark blue one," Emelie said, understanding the stylist's concerns.
After all, she wasn't just there to play the bride.
At the grand event, with elites from all walks of life gathered, on the most important day of her life, she planned to reopen a very old case. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
