Wooing My Ex-Wife

Chapter 760

Chapter 760

Charles hung his head low in dejection.

There was nothing he could say in the face of Benedict’s statements.

No words could express his raging guilt. His thin lips trembled, and in the end, he could only say, “I’m sorry.”

Benedict scoffed, “If saying sorry is enough, why do we need the police?”

Standing beside the bed, Charles was on the verge of tears.

Upon noticing the man’s expression, Benedict pouted and said arrogantly, “I’m not that petty, actually. I know it’s been a long time, and you never wanted to hurt me. I’m telling you all this because I want you to be willing to spend money on me and keep me happy.”

Charles nodded resolutely and stared at the oceanarium renovation plan calmly. “You’re right. As long as I can make you happy, I will complete your plan for the oceanarium even if I go bankrupt. It’s what I should do.”

Benedict waved his hand. “Go about your business now, and quit bothering me.”

“All right. Take care, Benny.” Charles recollected himself and left with the plan in his hand.

Just as he walked out of the ward, he met Cedrick, who had returned from buying durian.

Cedrick noticed Charles’ reddened eyes from afar and teased, “Why do you look like you’re on the verge of tearing up? Did my son make you cry? I can’t believe you can’t even handle the words of a five-year-old. When did you become so emotionally weak?”

Instead of explaining anything, Charles folded the paper in his hand and carefully placed it into his pocket. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll resume cleaning the restroom now.”

Cedrick nodded.

After walking around Cedrick, Charles heard him say, “Now that you’re in a relationship, you should get your act together and don’t let the woman down.”

Charles turned around abruptly. “What do you mean by that, Mr. Jenson?” Did Whitney tell Gwendolyn something?

“Whatever the words imply. The last time I went to the oceanarium, I noticed you barely spoke to that woman beside you and treated her coldly. She, on the other hand, had her eye on you. As a fellow man, there’s no way I don’t understand.”

A sigh escaped Charles’ lips. It seems Whitney isn’t stupid enough to spill the beans behind my back. “Worry not, Mr. Jenson. I chose to be with her. I will be responsible for her.”

There wasn’t any expression on Cedrick’s face. He didn’t ask too many questions because another man’s relationship was none of his business. The only reason he asked was because he spotted Gwendolyn having a wonderful time chatting with Whitney.

At the Newton residence, Whitney spent the day in her room, bored out of her mind.

Jasmine kept her company for the whole day, chatting and playing with her.

At night, when Charles arrived back home, he saw Lucas, Jasmine, and Whitney waiting for him at the dining table.

Upon recalling the kiss from last night, Whitney stared unblinkingly at Charles.

However, he ignored her presence while settling down at the head of the table. He picked up his cutlery and said, “Let’s eat.”

No one spoke a word in the dining room.

After dinner, Whitney and Charles walked up the stairs together.

They remained quiet until they arrived at the bedroom because they kept running into the housekeepers.

When they walked to the bedroom door, he said, “I still have company matters to attend to, so don’t wait for me.”

“Huh?” Just as Whitney turned to him, wishing to ask him a question, he had already arrived at the stairs.

He walked toward the study without turning his head back, denying her a chance to speak.

Is he still angry? Whitney couldn’t grasp his temperament at all. Based on what he said, I think he will spend the night in the study again. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

For the following days, Charles employed the same excuse to remain in the study for the whole night instead of sleeping in the bedroom.

Even the housekeepers were starting to believe the couple had an argument.

A driver of the Newton family was tasked with sending Whitney to work every day.

For a few days straight, Whitney couldn’t exchange even a word with Charles. The only time she would see him was during dinner. She had no idea where he went for the rest of the day.

After a week of Charles giving Whitney the cold shoulder, Jasmine couldn’t stand it anymore.

She directly confronted her brother at the dining table. “What exactly did Whitney do wrong, Charles? Why are you treating her like this?”

Charles was stunned for a moment before he composed himself again and continued to eat.

“Nothing,” he said calmly.

“Stop hiding, Charles. The whole family knows you’re having a lover’s spat with Whitney. It hasn’t been long since you both got married, yet you’re spending your nights in the study, making her sleep in the bedroom alone! Don’t you think you’re going overboard with this?”

Lucas added, “This isn’t right, Charles. A man should be more forgiving. Whitney traveled to a foreign country alone and married into our family. You mustn’t be petty. If you guys really had a fight, you should apologize first.”

The brother and sister spoke up for Whitney.

Charles’ expression darkened, but he continued to eat wordlessly.

Whitney was touched to have her siblings-in-law protecting her. Honestly, I’m surprised they’re so nice given that they grew up in an affluent family. In television shows I watched, the descendants of a prominent family will often tear each other apart for power and fortune. Yet, the Newton family seems to be a big, loving family.

“Lucas, Jasmine, thank you for your concern. However, Charles didn’t bully me. I was the one who upset him. I—” Before she could finish her sentence, Charles interrupted her.

He slammed his fork on the table, expressing his displeasure and warning her.

It was as though he was afraid Whitney would reveal what had happened to Jasmine and Lucas.

Whitney was startled by the sudden noise and paled slightly. Can’t he tell I’m trying to help him? I can’t believe he cut me off by slamming his fork on the table! He’s telling his siblings that we haven’t made up yet.

Lucas and Jasmine shifted their inquisitive glances between the couple.

Steeling herself, Whitney smiled awkwardly and explained, “I’ve apologized to Charles. We’re not fighting now. He’s been spending time in the study because he’s busy with work. I couldn’t help him out, so I didn’t want to disturb him.”

Jasmine wasn’t happy that Whitney was speaking up for Charles again. She turned to Charles. “As busy as you are with work, you mustn’t forget to show your wife love. Since she has already apologized to you, why are you still angry? Just sleep with her tonight.”

Charles’ siblings stared at him, waiting for his answer.

Standing around the dining room were the housekeepers, chefs, and Manuel.

After a moment of hesitation, Charles put his fork down again and held Whitney’s hand, a gentle look in his eyes. “Indeed, I have been busy lately. Not only do I need to visit the lab during the day and handle Newton Group’s affairs at night, I still need to take time out to renovate Benny’s oceanarium. I’m glad that you’re so understanding, Darling. I admit I was wrong to focus solely on my work and ignore you. Tonight, I’ll return to the bedroom and you can do whatever you want with me, Darling.”

Jasmine and Lucas clicked their tongues upon hearing his affectionate, loving words. They were doing fine, after all. Now, we’re forced to watch them being lovey-dovey.

Only Whitney was dumbfounded.

She froze after hearing his words, unable to look away from the fake affectionate look in his blue eyes. What did he just call me? Did he call me Darling?
