Chapter 231
Chapter 231
Howard’s eyes darkened immediately, fixating on her as he said, “I didn’t quite catch that.”
Gwendolyn’s neck flushed, her gaze darting away as she stammered, “You know, that thing.”
“I lost too much blood and don’t remember a thing,” he further feigned confusion.
In a fit of anger, Gwendolyn blurted out, “Exploring the Mysteries of the Human Body, and so on…” By the final word, she was too embarrassed to even look at him.
Howard wrapped an arm around her slim waist, a teasing tone in his voice. “Ah, so you wanted to study those skills with me. If you’re keen, I suppose I could oblige.” Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Sandra was wrong. Sure, men could easily be appeased, but they were also experts at overstepping boundaries, acting innocent even as they took advantage.
Gwendolyn couldn’t be more embarrassed.
“The USB drive is in the car. You could fetch it. We have all night long. I’m at your service,” he said, his eyes half–closed, masking the playful gleam.
Gwendolyn was frustrated and annoyed yet tongue–tied.
Impulsively, she silenced his ridiculous banter with a kiss, her teeth nibbling at his lip.
Howard pulled her closer, deepening the kiss.
It was a lingering, complex, and prolonged moment.
Gwendolyn was breathless and flushed, her eyes glistening with clarity, irresistibly drawing him in. The beast within Howard threatened to break free.
That was an overwhelming desire to possess.
He spoke between breaths, “If you wish to make amends, offer yourself to me next time. We have a home theater in the villa where anything goes.”
The insinuation was crystal clear.
Gwendolyn’s heartbeat thundered erratically.
“Gwendolyn, can I do anything?” he asked.
Trembling, she met his dark, intense gaze and whispered faintly, “Yes.”
Anything would do.
The next day, the relentless rain finally ceased, surprisingly replaced by sunshine.
“Lucky break! It seems like the sky cleared for our departure,” the surgeon exclaimed, “Now the bus can make it through.”
“I feel bad to leave. I’ll miss this place.”
“Dr. Quigley is so lucky to have a handsome and respectable husband to take her home. Where does one find a man like that?”

They had packed the medical equipment from the clinic, waiting for the bus to arrive for departure.
Gwendolyn was the exception since Howard had driven down to pick her up
The Rolls–Royce parked at the village entrance had been the subject of much admiration.
The mountain roads were hard to navigate. Initially covered in mud and scratches, the car had been washed by the grateful villagers whom Howard had helped the day before.
Gwendolyn and Howard were immediately surrounded by enthusiastic villagers right after they exited the small cottage.
“Dr. Quigley, your medical skills are remarkable! My child is up and walking…”
“Mr. Chadwick, we can’t thank you enough for your help! We feel terrible you got hurt. Here, take these farm–fresh eggs and leafy greens. It’s not much, but it’s all we have.”
“And from us, too…”
Several baskets of eggs and greens were thrust into Howard’s arms. Gwendolyn, who had seen him in his sharp suits and lofty demeanor, had never witnessed such a scene.
She couldn’t help but snicker.
“Quentin, what are you standing there for?” With a frown, Howard handed the goods to Quentin, instructing, “Put them in the car, and don’t smash them.”
“Yes, Mr. Chadwick.” Quentin took care of the items and took his place behind the wheel.
Gwendolyn and Howard got into the car. Staring out the window, she was suddenly struck by a wave of longing.
“Mr. Chadwick, will we come back here?” Gwendolyn asked from the back seat.
“If you want, we can,” Howard replied leisurely. “Quentin, call Nathan and tell him to allocate some funds for road construction in Honeysuckle Hollow.”
The road to prosperity was paved with asphalt.
This age–old truth was applicable in any era, but the effort and resources required to build roads were tremendous.
Gwendolyn stared at Howard in astonishment, her heart aflutter. She even felt ashamed for thinking the Stellar Crescent Foundation was just a token of affection.
