And The Daddy Is… The Infertile Guy?!

Chapter 232

Chapter 232

Falling for such a man of such depth and serenity, Gwendolyn couldn’t have been happier.

After a three–hour drive, Gwendolyn finally arrived at the Chadwick family’s cozy cottage.

To her surprise, Roselind and Jeannie were also there, helping Marina prepare a welcoming feast.

“Gwendolyn, you’re back. We were just wondering when you’d show up,” Jeannie said warmly, linking her arm through Gwendolyn’s, “The kitchen’s full of your favorites.”

“Thanks” Gwendolyn replied with polite gratitude.

“It’s what family does,” Roselind chimed in with a smile, “Come here, I want to have a word with you.”

Gwendolyn glanced at Howard, who nodded subtly. His injury was hidden beneath his crisp white shirt, invisible to the eye.

He had insisted on the drive over that his family must not know about his wound.

“Til go change,” Howard said casually, his expression unreadable.

Once he left, Roselind dismissed Jeannie to assist Marina in the kitchen.

Roselind and Gwendolyn sat in the living room, as close as mother and daughter.

“Gwendolyn, I’ve seen the rumors online. Originally, the Hamilton family and the Chadwick family wanted to unite our families through marriage, but it was my foolish idea,” Roselind confessed with regret, “I thought it would be perfect since they grew up together.”

The night they suggested a joyous event to turn their luck, Derrick shipped Selina abroad overnight.

Roselind saw the Hamiltons‘ true nature. She understood but could not forgive them.

“As for Howard’s past feelings for her, we as parents were never clear. But it’s obvious to anyone with eyes that Howard is quite taken with you.”

“Howard is proud, with a strong sense of self–esteem, and yes, a bit of an old–fashioned macho streak. Bear with him, for you two are meant to spend a lifetime together.”

Gwendolyn pursed her lips and shook her head, saying, “Mr. Chadwick has been wonderful.”

She appreciated Roselind’s efforts to comfort her.

“If you say he’s good, then he’s good. But if he ever steps out of line, you tell me. I’ll straighten him out for you.‘ Roselind said with a playful smile.

Gwendolyn’s lips curved into a soft smile.

“Marina’s soup is ready too. Let’s eat together,” Roselind suggested, standing up and whispering as she took Gwendolyn’s hand, “From now on, you can think of me as your own mother.”

Gwendolyn was taken aback, her eyes moistening.

Clearly, Roselind knew about the troubles with the Sawyer family, but she didn’t mention them outright, sparing Gwendolyn’s dignity.

“Okay,” Gwendolyn replied, her voice choked with emotion.

In stark contrast to the warmth of the Chadwicks, the opulent Walker family in the northern part of Bayridge City was in turmoil.

The chaos began when Candy received a call from the police station, asking her to cooperate with an investigation.

She turned pale and shouted into the phone, “Conspiracy to commit murder? Burglary? I didn’t…”

She hadn’t done those things. All she had done was pull some strings to hire a thug to take some compromising photos to coerce Gwendolyn into divorce.

If Gwendolyn refused to leave, the plan was to leak her private photos. The Chadwicks cared about their reputation, and they would surely force Gwendolyn and Howard to split.

How had it escalated to conspiracy to commit murder?

Candy felt dry–mouthed and her scalp tingled with dread, “Isn’t there some mistake? In a society ruled by law, how could I dare commit such a crime?”

The officer on the phone responded, “Cooperating with an investigation is a civic responsibility. Please, don’t worry, we don’t levy accusations lightly. Come into the station as soon as you can.”

Candy’s heart skipped a beat, her complexion turning ashen.

She wasn’t innocent, but she wasn’t that malicious either.

In a daze, she got into her BMW and headed for the police station. Distracted, she crashed into a bollard. Passersby rushed her to the hospital.

And just like that, the situation blew up.
