Chapter 96 Materialistic
Chapter 96 Materialistic
For a moment, Harriet couldn’t know whether she was blaming Cherry or not - after all, Cherry didn’t
know her true feelings, she might just want to play cupid for them with the best of intentions.
Looking at the crowd of onlookers, Harriet suddenly gave a smile and looked toward Keith with
kindness.
“Keith, I’m truly grateful for your affection. Actually I like you quite a lot, but you’re still so young, and
I’m afraid that your fans won’t let go of me if I really accept you.”
She resolved the serious atmosphere with just a few words.
Everyone understood that Harriet was turning Keith down euphemistically. She had quick wits to
forcibly turn the courtship to an admiration of the junior for the senior.
The joy on Keith’s face disappeared gradually, “Harriet, are you rejecting me?”
Harriet laughed, “How can this be called rejection? I’m just waiting for you to grow up. You’re still so
young, do you really know what liking is? Alas... I’m worried that you will forget today’s confession
when you have your favorite girl a few years later, then I will be really sad by that time.”
Her remarks caused a storm of laughter, and an actor took over her words, “Harriet, you’ve got all the
cheek in the world. We’re all waiting for you to become Keith's girlfriend, and think that we will be
treated with a free meal today. You're too uncompromising."
“That is. Keith, you can choose me otherwise, I definitely won’t say no.”
The crew played a joke, it was obvious that they had been misled by Harriet’s words.
They could see that Harriet was really unwilling to accept Keith, but she didn’t feel like hurting the heart
of an innocent young boy as well, so everyone also cooperated with her to prevent the situation from
being too embarrassing. After all, all of them worked in the same theater group, and it was not good if
they didn’t get along well with each other.
Only a trace of discontent flashed across the face of Cherry.
She had a hard time instigating Keith to do so, but she didn’t expect that Harriet could resolve the
embarrassment so easily.
“Harriet, haven’t you seen today’s headlines?” Just when Harriet thought the crisis was everted, Keith
suddenly spit out this sentence.
Harriet was taken aback, then heard the boy say word by word, “If you promise to stay with me, the
rumors over the Internet will collapse by itself. I can also save your blushes and tell everyone that we
are together.”
His words caused uproar in the crowd.
On second thought, the resolution of Keith might not be amiss here. After all, the Miller family was quite
influential in California, and Harriet could be saved as long as Keith looked for an excuse to say he was
also there at the time. Since the Millers and the Smiths had been on very good terms in former days, if
they said three of them were actually good friends in private, by adding some embellishments, then this
scandal could be over.
However, Harriet’s expression turned to be serious, “Keith, when have you learned to threaten people?”
As they saw Harriet really get angry, they immediately stepped out to mediate the dispute, “Keith, we all
know that you’re concerned about Harriet, but it’s better not to drag you into this.”
“Ahem, just see what time is it now, do you guys still want to start today’s filming? Let’s get ready now,
lest the director comes over and goes crazy.”
The crowd broke up in a hubbub, while Harriet didn’t continue looking at Keith’s face, but turned around
and headed to the dressing room for preparation.
Keith didn’t catch up to entangle her, but the hurt in his eyes was very obvious.
“Harriet, are you angry?” Cherry followed behind her with an apologetic expression, “Are you blaming
me? I shouldn’t poke my nose into this.”
Upon seeing Cherry reproach herself, Harriet’s heart was melted. She sighed, “I really don’t have
feelings toward Keith. In the future, you shouldn’t take part in this kind of thing to avoid unnecessary
troubles.”
Cherry looked depressed, “Sorry, I actually...I saw you’re intertwining with Mr. Smith, and hope that you
can get rid of him as soon as possible. Harriet, listen to me, he has engagement already. Instead of
staying together with him, it’s better for you to find another man. Keith is still young, and he may be
controlled easily in the future. In addition…”
“Cherry, in your eyes, am I just a materialistic woman?” Harriet interrupted her and said seriously.
Cherry frowned as Harriet didn’t turn out the way she had hoped, but still trying her best to convince
her.
“Harriet, of course I didn’t mean to look down on you, instead, I will think so because I’m worried about
you. In the entertainment’s world, there are a lot of celebrities who have relied on the influential to
assure their career. I will seize it as well if I have the chance. But I don’t bear to see you cook your
goose by yourself. Just think about it, what good result can you have with Wesley Smith? You might as
well find another man who is more reliable earlier.” Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Cherry analyzed wholeheartedly for Harriet’s sake, her analysis sounded so reasonable.
“I feel like getting rid of him as well,” Harriet said softly, “But not in this way, and it’s not good to drag
Keith into the mess as well.”
Cherry quitted while she was ahead, immediately she casted her eyes down glumly.
“Sorry, it’s me who has been too selfish. I’m not considerate like you. I shouldn’t give Keith an idea.”
“Forget it, I actually can’t blame you. It’s just a matter of time.” Harriet could see that Keith did have an
obsession against her.
Both of them then chit chatted for a while. Cherry felt relieved as she found Harriet didn’t blame her
anymore.
Fortunately, she didn’t let this shrewd woman notice something. How could she be exposed so quickly?
She might give Harriet “bigger surprise” afterward, and she must wait to witness it.
Leaving the dressing room, when no one noticed her, the hint of a smirk crossed Cherry’s face.
The morning was over peacefully.
Probably because of his bad mood, Keith’s performance was unsatisfactory. However, Harriet didn’t
give him any reminder for this time. She was afraid that this sensitive boy would misunderstand her
again if she did it.
After struggling to film one scene, the director announced to pause the shooting, everyone in the crew
could refresh themselves during the break, while the shooting would continue in the afternoon.
Harried went back to the lounge in the filming studio somewhat tiredly. She took the cheesecake
prepared by Molly to grab a bite. The moment she was considering whether to have her lunch here or
go back, someone at the door asked her to go out.
“Wesley?”
At a glance, she saw a man with the towering figure. He looked elegant, alienated and calm, and
seemed that he was not bothered by the online rumors at all.
“Why are you here?” Harriet was surprised.
Wesley glanced at her face, suddenly he reached out to wipe the cake crumbs off the corners of her
lips, then said gently, “Visit you.”
Harriet was not surprised by his action. He often had similar gentle actions these days, so she had
been used to it. However, it was an extreme shock in the eyes of others.
“Don’t you see the news on the Internet? You come here at this moment, I’m gonna be drowned by
saliva.” Harriet said helplessly, “Besides, who am I to you? How dare I bother you to visit me
personally?”
Wesley spoke with a neutral accent, “I’ve dealt with it, so don’t worry.”
Harriet was taken aback, taking out her phone and turned on it skeptically. Sure enough, all the news
about her and Wesley had vanished within a few hours only.
But Harriet didn’t feel so happy. Firstly, despite the disappearance of the news, those rumors still could
not vanish at once, after all, the rumors had caused a stir already. Secondly, Wesley had the ability to
settle a matter very efficiently, but he delayed it until now, so it was obvious that he deliberately allowed
it to develop.
“Don’t worry-you can say this so easily. Of course you don’t need to worry, you don’t work in the
entertainment industry,” Harriet frowned, somewhat unhappily. Having spoken these words she noticed
that her tone was vexed, as if she was acting coquettishly at her boyfriend.
