Departure with a Belly (Alaric and Victoria)

Chapter 469

Chapter 469

Meanwhile, Bane’s worries subsided when he learned Victoria had fallen asleep. His

first thought when he received a call from the butler was that something had

happened. Perhaps, the incident in which she was injured had significantly impacted

him, making him overly cautious about her well–being. For that reason, he dropped

everything and returned at once. Hence, upon hearing that she was sleeping, he was

finally relieved.

While standing there, he asked Jessie, “Didn’t you go for a walk? Why did you come

back so soon?”

“Yes.” She nodded. “As soon as we entered the mall, Miss Selwyn said she was tired.

She bought some food, but nothing else, so we came back.”

Suddenly, Bane listened intently after she told him that Victoria had taken the initiative

to buy some food. “What did she buy?”

After Jessie mentioned the names of the food items, she added, “Miss Selwyn didn’t

eat much. It seems like she’s not very interested.”

“It’s fine, Remember it and make some of it at home later,” he said. It’s worth noting that

she’s willing to try a few bites of it.

“Very well, Mr. Morison.”

Seeing him still standing there, she couldn’t help but ask, “So, Mr. Morison, when are

you going to see Miss Selwyn?”

“No rush,” Bane replied calmly, a hint of warmth in his eyes. “She’s sleeping, right? We’ll

talk when she wakes up. You go to the kitchen and make sure the food is ready.”

After acknowledging him, Jessie headed toward the kitchen. I can see that Mr. Morison

is genuinely kind to Miss Selwyn. Also, she is friendlier and more pleasant to be around

than I had anticipated. If these two could stay together for a long time, it would make

my working environment much easier, but I have this nagging suspicion that she might

not like him. Then again, he had already brought her back home, and this was his first

time being so completely devoted to a woman; he was truly remarkable. So, there

shouldn’t be any woman who doesn’t like him, right? With that thought in mind, she put

her worries aside and stopped thinking about it.

On the other hand, when Victoria returned to her room, she did not fall asleep but

instead lay in bed, contemplating what she would say to Bane upon his arrival. She

hadn’t been lying there long when she heard footsteps outside and the turn of the

doorknob, which caused her to sit up abruptly.

When he walked in, he saw her sitting on the edge of the bed, her eyes wide open,

staring at him. He had assumed she was sleeping and entered quietly, intending to take

a quick look before leaving, but he never anticipated that she would be awake. Then, he

asked, “Aren’t you asleep?”

She avoided answering his question and went straight to the point. “I have something

to tell you.”

This statement made Bane’s gaze flicker slightly as if he had already surmised

something, and he approached her.

At this moment, Victoria was about to get up when she noticed he had gone around her

and was taking a jacket off the hanger.

“It’s cold outside. Remember to wear warm clothes when you get out of bed. Don’t

catch a cold.” Even though the room was heated and didn’t feel cold, he felt her clothing

was too thin. Then, he continued, “What do you want to say? Sit down and say it.”

Then, she sat on the bed, and he did not leave; rather, he crouched in front of her.

“What do you want to tell me?” he asked.

Victoria pressed her lips together and looked at Bane. Then, she said, “You should also

take a seat.”

However, he replied, “It’s okay. This is fine.”

Seeing his stubbornness, she didn’t try to persuade him further. After some thought,

she decided to get right to the point with the words she had prepared. “Before I lost my

memory, I wanted to save someone. So, where is he?”

He had anticipated that she would bring up this matter, but he had not expected her to

be so direct. However, he realized that it suited her personality, as she had always been

forthright, and even when she had previously rejected him, she had done so with

sincerity. After that, he tugged at the corner of his lips and asked, “Did Ethan tell you?”

To his surprise, she returned his gaze calmly. “Wasn’t it you who gave him the

opportunity?”

Ethan was aware of the situation and felt guilty, but Bane allowed Ethan to follow her

around. Didn’t that imply Bane gave him a chance to tell her?

After she said these words, Bane looked at Victoria silently for a long time before a

smile crept onto his face. “Even though you lost your memories, you still seem to be

able to guess my thoughts, Victoria. You do understand me.”

After hearing this, she remained silent because she refrained from saying what was on

her mind. You’re so obvious, and anyone can see it. It has nothing to do with whether I

understand you or not. However, she didn’t want to dwell on it any longer because she

had her own purpose to resolve. “So, can I see him now?” she asked, keeping the

conversation focused on what she wanted to settle.

At this moment, a smidgeon of displeasure flashed across his dark eyes because he

hadn’t expected her to be so concerned about this matter even after losing her

memory. “Victoria, seeing him is not possible,” he stated.

Then, Victoria furrowed her brows in response. “Why? What was the point of letting

Ethan tell me if you didn’t want me to see him?”

Nonetheless, Bane didn’t answer but silently stared at her.

After a brief exchange of glances, she demanded, “Tell me then, what do you want me

to do?”

“Seeing him is not an option, but providing medical treatment and sending him away

are both possible with conditions.” Bane paused momentarily and continued, “I’m sure

you already know the conditions.”

When Victoria heard this, she pursed her lips without saying anything.

“Have you made up your mind?” He stared at her and added, “If I let him go, will you stay

by my side?”

Although he knew she had probably already made up her mind when she approached

him with the question, he still desired to hear her response. I want her to tell me she

wants to stay by my side.

Unfortunately, she appeared to be able to read his mind. She didn’t say anything that

would please him, instead replying coldly, “If that was my purpose in coming here, then

I have no choice but to do so. This has nothing to do with whether or not I have made

up my mind.”

He was speechless upon hearing this. However, he was disappointed because he did

not hear the sweet words he had hoped for. After staring at her for a while in silence, he

tugged at the corner of his lips again. “Well said.”

“I want to see him, even if just for a moment,” Victoria said. In fact, she had discussed Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

other things with Ethan as well. When he found out that she had lost her memory but

still remembered that there was something important she hadn’t done, he was

surprised. During their conversation, he even made a suggestion.

“Miss Selwyn, since you still remember this, maybe you can try to meet Mr. Cadogan. It

might help you recover your memories.”

She remembered his words and thought they made sense. Memories could be

stimulated, and perhaps meeting someone important to her would help her regain her

memories. She knew how terrible it felt to be helpless, unable to control anything, and

reliant on others to tell her everything.
