Chapter 153
Chapter 153
Given the current situation, she could only bite the bullet and try to recover the money through other means.
Judging by the number of followers she had, Angeline was confident that she would be able to sell at least tens of thousands of those devices.
After settling work-related matters, Angeline headed to the IT department with Lillian, where she asked to see those who were involved in the live stream the previous evening individually in her office.
The issue that occurred during the live stream the night before was just too suspicious. It was unlikely that the error in price tagging happened merely because the computers were too old. The explanation was simply too far-fetched.
The last person who was questioned was a young man with an honest-looking face. He was already shaking nervously when he saw Angeline, and it took him a while to compose himself before he started speaking.
“All of us were staring at the computer screen when midnight arrived last night. However, the screen suddenly turned black for a few seconds. When it came back on again, the error had already happened.”
“Isn’t it your job to make sure that the computers were running fine? Why didn’t you guys do a proper check before the live stream started?” Angeline asked sternly.
“We did. When we checked, everything was running smoothly. None of us knew what went wrong.”
That got Angeline thinking, and it quickly dawned upon her that someone might have intentionally caused that error. An ominous feeling immediately filled her heart.
“Was everyone from the IT department present yesterday?”
Since the accident happened in the IT department, it made sense to start the investigation there.
“No. Jayden left early to spend time with his family.” The young man let out a helpless sigh. “Jayden has the best technical skills among us. If he had been around, the error probably wouldn’t have caused the company such huge losses.”
Angeline’s expression darkened. Fixing her gaze on the cup on the table, the woman fell into deep thought.
Logically, Jayden is the prime suspect.
Besides, given his impressive technical skills, it wouldn’t be too difficult for him to control the computer remotely.
With that thought, Angeline felt even more certain of her suspicion and decided to investigate further into the matter.
However, she did not share her intentions with the young man. She dismissed him after telling him that it was just a simple inquiry.
After a short while, Angeline stood up from her chair and headed toward the warehouse where the beauty devices were stored. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
Lillian, who was following behind the woman, could not help but ask out of curiosity, “Ms. Sorelle, how are you intending to deal with Jayden?”
“I need to think about that. You can go on with your work. I’ll take a look at the warehouse myself.”
Angeline chose not to share too much, as she would usually keep her decisions to herself.
“Sure, Ms. Sorelle.”
Lillian had no choice but to stop in her tracks. The gentleness in her eyes vanished immediately after Angeline disappeared into the corridor.
The next instant, she took out her phone and dialed a familiar string of numbers.
“Mrs. Yiurk, Angeline has started to suspect that the pricing error was caused intentionally, but she didn’t tell me what she’s planning to do next. What should we do?”
Right after the assistant finished speaking, Joseline’s furious voice sounded from the other end of the line.
“I knew that b*tch wouldn’t let it slide easily. I’ve experienced it too well myself. Did she give you any work to do?”
Lillian shared Angeline’s plans for the beauty device with Joseline.
“Live steam?” Joseline bellowed in a sharp voice that contained a hint of jealousy. “She can keep dreaming! I will not let her get her way!”
Joseline’s reaction sent shivers down Lillian’s spine. Looking terrified, Lillian asked in a shaky voice, “Mrs. Yiurk, what are your plans?”
“I need you to help me with one more thing…”
When Angeline arrived at the warehouse, she realized that there were way more beauty devices than she had expected.
Only a handful of employees were sent to do the repackaging. Given the lack of manpower, it would take them forever to finish the work.
Angeline knew that the live stream had to be impressive enough to attract consumers’ attention if she wanted to sell the devices quickly.
As she would not be able to do that alone, she would have to engage the help of other celebrities.
She would have to spend a huge amount of money on manpower as well as remuneration for the celebrities.
Angeline’s head began to hurt. She let out a helpless sigh and started massaging her temples.
Even though the woman had made a small fortune from her entertainment career, she had spent most of it on her search for her child. As such, she knew that she had to find an investor if she did not want to bear all the marketing costs herself.
Evander was the only person Angeline could think of who was both smart and generous.
After leaving Forrester Group, Angeline passed a shopping list to her driver and instructed him to buy all the ingredients listed on the paper from the nearby supermarket.
When that was done, Angeline rang Francesca to inform her that the driver would be sending her to the Golding residence.
Ding dong!
Angeline had just rung the doorbell when the door opened and she saw Floretta. The girl, whose top of her head barely reached Angeline’s thigh, was beaming happily as she ran into the woman’s arms.
“Angel, you’re here! I missed you so much!”
Floretta was dressed in a puffy lace dress and had her hair braided into two pigtails.
Angeline could feel her heart melting as she gazed at the girl who looked just like a doll.
She picked Floretta up and said, “Yup. I’m here to see you and make you some yummy food!”
When Floretta heard that, she clapped excitedly and exclaimed, “Yay! I get to taste Angel’s cooking again! I’ll call Daddy now. He loves your cooking.”
“Don’t call him. Your daddy is probably busy working now.” Angeline stopped the girl at once.
However, a hint of delight flashed in her eyes when she heard Floretta’s words. If Evander liked her cooking, it would be much easier for her to carry out her plan.
Angeline took her grocery bags to the kitchen and greeted Francesca with a smile on her face.
Francesca, who was busy preparing dinner in the kitchen, said, “Ms. Sorelle, you didn’t have to buy all these ingredients. We have everything here.”
“I know, but I wanted to make stew for Mr. Golding. There are some ingredients I need that are not commonly found at home, so I decided to get them since it was on the way,” Angeline replied before taking out a piece of beef brisket from a bag.
Then, navigating the kitchen like it was her own, she took out a plate from the cabinet and started washing the beef brisket.
Impressed by Angeline’s skills in the kitchen, Francesca praised Angeline with a satisfied smile on her face, “Ms. Sorelle, Mr. Golding will be overjoyed to find out that you came here especially to make him stew.”
“I hope so.”
Feeling somewhat embarrassed, Angeline pursed her lips as a blush crept across her cheeks.
Angeline prepared a few dishes with Francesca’s help, including Floretta’s favorite buffalo wings. However, more time was needed to prepare the beef stew to ensure that the meat was soft and tender.
While the stew was being cooked on a small fire on the gas stove, Angeline would taste it intermittently to ensure that the flavor was just right.
“What brings you here today?” Evander’s voice suddenly sounded in the kitchen.
