Her Precious Baby

Chapter 191

Chapter 191

Tears welled up in Angeline’s eyes when she heard him. For a moment, she didn’t know how to reply to the old man.

Wilfred let out a bitter chuckle.

“I almost forgot I’m blind. Can’t believe I’m all alone in my last days.” His voice was filled with regret.

Angeline quickly held his hand. It took her every ounce of willpower not to cry.

“What nonsense are you talking about, Grandpa? I’m right here.” She forced a cheery tone.

“Angeline?”

Wilfred was overjoyed. He grabbed her hand excitedly and babbled, “I’m so glad you’re here. Who would have thought you would be the one by my side before I passed on?”

Angeline could only comfort him with words as she couldn’t bring herself to tell him the truth.

“That won’t happen, Grandpa. The doctor said just now you will recover. You just need to recuperate. I’ll hire some caregivers to look after you.”

Wilfred chuckled. He spoke in a relaxed manner as if he had overcome the fear of death. “I know my own body best. I only have a few days left.”

“I’ll get you the best doctor-”

“No need to waste your money. It’s pointless now.”

Wilfred paused as his eyes darkened. He gritted his teeth and said resentfully, “It’s so unfair. I never thought that the granddaughter I’ve raised would try to kill me to get her hands on my inheritance. I thought we were family.”

Upon finishing his sentence, he clutched his chest and launched into a coughing fit.

Angeline quickly helped him up, poured him a glass of water, and fed him with a spoon.

She waited till he had calmed down before deciding to tell him the truth, even though she was worried that his heart wouldn’t be able to take it.

“I’ve looked into it secretly, Grandpa. Joseline is not part of the Sorelle family. But I guess only Mom and Dad would know what happened back then.”

Wilfred was stunned. However, the news didn’t surprise him as much anymore after all he had been through.

“I see. Your mom was studying overseas with your dad when she was pregnant with Joseline. It wasn’t until two years later that they brought her back.”

“If that’s the case, then my guesses must be right. Mom and Dad were kind souls. It wouldn’t surprise me if they took Joseline in,” she said grimly.

“Their kindness had nurtured a snake in their bosom!” Wilfred shouted furiously before launching into another fit of cough.

“How dare they? How dare they hide something so important from me? How disrespectful of them,” he continued.

“Grandpa, Joseline is to blame. Mom and Dad have nothing to do with this.” Angeline couldn’t help but defend her parents.

She showed even more tenderness toward Wilfred now that she knew he wasn’t aware of Joseline’s background.

Would he still have kicked me out of the household and helped Joseline become who she is today if he had seen this coming? Alas, there’s no medicine for regret.

She took a deep breath and looked Wilfred in the eye.

“Grandpa, you only need to focus on getting better by cooperating with the doctor. Leave the rest to me. I’ll make Joseline pay for everything!”

Tears welled up in Wilfred’s eyes when he heard her words. He grabbed Angeline’s hand and sighed.

“My dear child, I have reached my limit. The future of the Sorelles lay in your hands now…”

Bang! Bang!

Just then, someone knocked on the door before pushing it open.

A man dressed in a suit stood by the door with some files in his arm. He glanced around the room with a straight face.

“Greetings, Ms. Sorelle.”

Angeline sprang up from her chair when the man greeted her.

“Hello. You are?” she asked, puzzled.

The man introduced himself respectfully, “I am Old Mr. Sorelle’s lawyer, Mr. Clarke, mainly appointed to write his will.”

“I see.”

Angeline wiped her tears away, took a pillow from the couch, and placed it behind Wilfred for back support. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

“I’ll leave you alone with Mr. Clarke, Grandpa. See you tomorrow,” she said softly.

“Okay.”

Angeline took her bag and left the ward after that.

She noticed the solemn look on Wilfred’s face when she closed the door but said nothing.

It wasn’t her place to ask Wilfred how he was planning to write his will. Moreover, she wasn’t after his inheritance when she decided to care for Wilfred.

After all, he already knew the truth. There was nothing she could say or do if he decided to give Joseline his inheritance for old times’ sake.

Nevertheless, Angeline believed that Wilfred would never do that.

She made her way to the balcony, opened it, and took a deep breath of fresh air to make herself feel better.

Her heart felt heavy as she remembered the words Wilfred had said to her in the ward.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as scenes of the Sorelles’ demise flashed past her mind.

Just as she was feeling troubled and helpless, she suddenly felt someone drape a thick suit jacket over her shoulders to keep her warm.

Angeline froze. She knew who it was just by the smell of sandalwood on the suit jacket.

“Why are you still here? Where’s Floretta?” She turned and noticed Evander standing alone behind her.

“Francesca has fetched Floretta back, so don’t you worry. Do you want to have some Jetroinian food?”

Meanwhile, in the ward, Wilfred adjusted to a more comfortable position, put his fist near his lips, and coughed heavily.

Mr. Clarke’s eyes were filled with concern as he sized him up.

“Old Mr. Sorelle, your illness is getting worse. I heard you were sent to the emergency room just now. Should I come another day?”

“No need. My days are numbered. Let’s settle this once and for all so that there is one less thing for me to worry about.”

“Okay.”

Mr. Clarke didn’t say anything anymore since Wilfred was adamant about it. He flipped open the file in his hand.

“Old Mr. Sorelle, I’ve drafted the asset distribution agreement. Are you sure you want to hand Sorelle Group over to Joseline?”

Wilfred hesitated upon hearing his words. It took him a long while before he answered, “Yes!”

“Okay. I will need you to sign the will if you have no more questions. The agreement will take effect starting today.”

“Okay.”

Wilfred nodded in agreement. He then chop-signed a series of documents as Mr. Clarke had instructed.
