Chapter 199
Chapter 199
She could not fathom how Angeline was so lucky all the time.
Henry arched a brow when he noticed her expression. He smiled in satisfaction.
“Therefore, you cannot be defeated by Angeline! You must understand that your target is Sorelle Group and not Hanson!”
When Joseline heard Hanson’s name, she sneered in displeasure.
“Why are you suddenly bringing up Hanson? You are merely a singer who requires my support. Do you think you can compete against him?”
“I can’t compete against him, but don’t you forget that we are in the same boat.”
Henry gripped the steering wheel tightly. Anger flitted across his eyes as he reminded her in a deep voice, “I was the one who planned the fire and handled the funeral matters for you while you were in jail. Your beloved Hanson did not even bother to pay you a visit.”
When Joseline heard that he had handled the funeral matters, her expression changed drastically.
She raised her head, met Henry’s confident gaze, and immediately understood everything.
“Of course, I know what I must do. I just got too emotional just now.”
Joseline’s attitude changed in an instant. Her tone was no longer cold but somewhat cautious as she asked, “Have you really arranged everything?”
Henry scoffed coldly as a smirk appeared on his face. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
“I heard that Old Mr. Sorelle’s condition has deteriorated, and he is currently writing his will. You better listen to me, or you won’t get anything if I unintentionally spill the beans?”
Words eluded Joseline when she heard that.
It was as if a bucket of cold water was poured down on her, drenching her from head to toe. She shivered involuntarily.
Who would have guessed? The tables have turned. Henry was as obedient as a dog when I gave him a mansion and money. However, he is quick to turn his back on me when I’m destitute.
Tightening her grip on the seatbelt that was fastened around her, she bit her lip hard, feeling the resentment brewing deep within her.
She vowed to never let herself be at the mercy of others.
“Ms. Sorelle, the DNA results for the child are out. Are you able to come over and take a look?”
Angeline received a call from the technical team three days later.
“Sure. I’m heading over there right now.”
With that, she held Nancy’s hand tightly and proceeded to the technical department. She was so agitated that her legs were like jelly.
After pressing the elevator button a few times and waiting for it for a few minutes, Angeline decided to use the stairs instead.
The technical department was ten floors below them, and as she descended the steps, her heart was thumping violently.
They moved so quickly that they did not notice two people conversing in a corner.
“Angeline, please slow down.”
Nancy’s face was flushed as she followed behind Angeline, panting and gasping for air. As she caught up to Angeline, she belatedly sensed something amiss.
Pondering for a moment, she asked, “Did you see someone who looked just like Olivine just now?”
“Huh? No.”
Angeline frowned and turned around to scan the surroundings. She didn’t see anyone who resembled Olivine. “Are you hallucinating because you didn’t get enough rest?”
“Perhaps. Let’s go and see the report,” Nancy answered lightly and stopped thinking about it.
After they entered the obstetrics department, Olivine finally appeared behind a door that led to the stairwell. Clad in an all-black ensemble, she was particularly inconspicuous.
She patted her chest lightly, relieved that she didn’t get discovered. When she touched her back, she realized she was drenched in sweat.
Upon scolding herself internally for being a coward, she cast a cold glance at the doctor behind her.
“Look at how scared you are. Are you sure you won’t get caught for what you have done to the report?”
“Don’t worry. Nothing will go wrong.”
Olivine breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that. Then, she produced a check of two hundred thousand from her bag and stuffed it into his hands.
“This is a small token of appreciation. You’ll be rewarded handsomely when all is done.”
In the meantime, Angeline apprehensively opened the door to the doctor’s office.
“Ms. Sorelle, based on the blood test results, there is a ninety-five percent probability that the child is biologically related to you.”
The doctor’s words echoed in Angeline’s ears, and blood rushed into her brain as a sense of breathlessness descended upon her.
“Angeline, are you okay?”
Nancy glanced at her worriedly as she held Angeline’s hand tightly. Instantly, she gasped in surprise and asked, “Why are your hands so cold?”
“I’m fine. Let’s leave. We shouldn’t disturb the doctor any longer.”
Tugging the corners of her lips, Angeline smiled bitterly. When they left the doctor’s office, she seemed to have lost all strength and stood rooted to the ground.
“There’s no rush. Let’s sit down for a while.”
Nancy understood Angeline’s feelings, so she considerately helped Angeline sit down on a chair in the corridor.
With her hands on Angeline’s shoulders, Nancy let out a long sigh and consoled, “Although you and Floretta are not biologically related, that doesn’t mean you can’t have maternal affection for her. In fact, I think this is a great thing.”
Angeline remained silent.
Nancy continued, “Look. Now that you have found your child, you have evidence that Mr. Golding is not the man from five years ago. Then, you guys can get together without any reservations.”
Angeline had to admit Nancy had her way of comforting people.
Well, that’s true.
With so much proof from the rural child trafficker as well as the DNA results, she had no choice but to accept the truth.
This meant Evander was not the scoundrel from five years ago. She had misunderstood him for so long.
With that thought in mind, Angeline felt embarrassed as guilt swirled in her heart.
After much pondering, she took out her phone and found Evander’s contact. She was about to call him when someone interrupted her.
“Ms. Sorelle, you’re here! I have been looking for you. The child has woken up.”
Angeline froze momentarily upon hearing that. Her phone slipped from her hand and dropped to the ground with a thud.
She quickly stood up and ran toward the ward.
“Hey! Wait for me!”
Nancy picked up Angeline’s phone for her. She unintentionally caught a peek of the lit phone screen and saw that Angeline had intended to call Evander.
It seems that Angeline still cares a lot about her relationship with Evander.
In that instant, an unfathomable glint surfaced in Nancy’s eyes, and she came to a decision. Her lips curled into a meaningful smile.
Since both Angeline and Evander were unwilling to take a step back, she would help them out.
Meanwhile, in the Golding residence, Evander had grounded Floretta. Aside from going to school, she had been forced to stay at home ever since she and Angeline last parted ways.
Her phone was also confiscated, so she could not contact Angeline privately.
Therefore, she spent every day waiting beside the landline in the living room for Angeline to give her a call. However, Angeline never called her.
Floretta could no longer endure it anymore.
Throwing a huge tantrum, she refused to eat the yogurt Francesca had brought for her and tossed the cushion on the couch onto the floor.
“Daddy is a meanie! Why did he have to quarrel with Angel? Also, why is he so petty that he even prevents me from meeting Angel?”
Francesca replied anxiously, “Ms. Floretta, you can’t say that about Mr. Golding…”
“No, I must say it!”
Floretta wiped her tears away and started wailing. Sprawling on the couch, she flailed her limbs around.
“I hate Daddy! He’s so selfish! He obviously likes Angel but doesn’t want to admit it. Let me out! I want to see Angel!”
“Ms. Floretta, please calm down,” Francesca said, panicking. She was afraid Floretta might accidentally hurt herself but did not dare to approach the latter.
Previously, Floretta’s temper had improved following Angeline’s appearance. She was no longer a loner and stopped throwing tantrums.
However, Floretta had once again gone out of control without Angeline around.
