Chapter 64
The Fate
Her delicate and beautiful face was peaceful, and the emotion in her eyes was incomprehensible.
She always looked calm. Her eyes were clear and innocent, but he felt distant.
They looked at each other. At that moment, Benjamin felt hurt and pain.
Lauren's voice sounded. "Benjamin, forget it, it's just a slap. I'm okay. Don't argue with Harper. I don't want to affect your relationship." Lauren held onto Benjamin's arm and persuaded. Harper looked at her, and then Lauren recoiled in horror.
Harper said nothing, turned around, and went upstairs.
Benjamin looked at her lonely figure, feeling uneasy.
Harper returned to the bedroom and closed the door, then tears overflowed from his eyes.
She could wipe it, but she couldn't stop it.
She thought Benjamin loved Lauren. She assumed that even if they didn't get divorced, Benjamin's heart had belonged to Lauren.
But this was not good for her. Lauren could find someone to trouble her once, then she would do it again. The baby was growing, and she could realize that her feelings for her baby were getting deeper. For the baby's safety, she'd better divorce soon.
Harper finally made her decision, and she called Paul immediately.
She didn't blame Benjamin. "Grandpa, I'm sorry. Getting along with Benjamin these days, I'm afraid I can't make it. Even if the marriage was just about the Martin family and the Martin Group, I couldn't make it any longer."
"Is it because he and Lauren..."
"No, it's not because of that. I feel unhappy in this marriage. The doctor said that the baby also needs me to be happy, healthy, and safe. For the baby, I need a divorce.'
Harper knew that Paul cared about her child and herself. He would agree.
This was true.
Paul said, "Okay, divorce. I support you. It's good for you and your baby, I guess. I'm sorry that Benjamin and the Martin family failed you."
"Grandpa, please don't say that. Didn't you say that even if I'm divorced, I'm still a member of the Martin family? So how could the Martin family fail me? It's the fate that Benjamin and I have." Harper said more comforting words to Paul, making him laugh.
After Paul agreed to the divorce, he informed Scott and Lily the next day. They planned to invite the Mitchell family there and talk about it.
The next night, the two families gathered at the Martin Manor for dinner.
Paul uttered, "Thank you for coming tonight, I have something to tell you."
"What's it about?" Jack was very respectful to Paul.
Jennifer sitting next to Jack, was curious. Next to her sat Kimberly.
Scott and Lily were sitting on the other side. They looked a little solemn because they'd got the news.
Harper and Benjamin were sitting next to Paul. The scene was harmonious and peaceful until what happened next.
Paul said, "Harper and Benjamin did not divorce before, for the benefit of the Martin Group. However, they can't get along well and insist on separating. I have discussed this with Scott and decided to let them divorce. The Martin Group will not be impacted now."
After Paul's words came out, Jack, Jennifer, and Kimberly were stunned.
Jack and Jennifer looked at each other, and then Jack asked, "Sir Martin, do you mean you agree to their divorce?"
"Yes, I agreed. After all, they should choose their own life. As elders, we can't force it. However, even if they are divorced, we two families should not lose contact."
"Sir Martin, I can't believe you agreed. Since they are not divorced, they might want to cultivate their relationship. Have you thought about Harper?"
Jennifer's face was displeased.This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
Benjamin also didn't speak, his face was gloomy. He looked at Harper, only to find her calm without any expression.
Did she already know the purpose of the dinner?
Benjamin's face turned even colder.
Harper's eyes were warm, she added, "I agree with Sir Martin. Since Benjamin and I have the idea of divorcing, even if it is postponed for the Martin family, the final result will not change. I'm willing to divorce
now.'
"Harper!" Jennifer shouted.
Paul said, "Harper deserves better man. After the divorce, she is no longer Benjamin's wife, but I want to consider her my granddaughter."
Jack remained silent. Scott promised that he would treat Harper well in the future.
But the atmosphere was very oppressive.
Jennifer said with an unhappy face, "Sir Martin, Harper doesn't understand the meaning of divorce. She doesn't know the consequences."
"Sir Martin, please think about it for the sake of my father, okay?" Jack persuaded.
Harper remained calm and silent.
Benjamin could only end this topic by telling them he would consider it.
This incident caused everybody to be emotional.
On the way back, Jennifer looked at Harper indifferently. "Come to my place tomorrow."
Then she took Kimberly and Jack into the car and left.
Harper thought of her mother's words.
She laughed at herself. She didn't have a home that truly belonged to her in Mayby. She wanted to leave.
Harper and Benjamin also took the car back to the Pineview Villa. They didn't say a word.
In this way, they finally get back to the Pineview Villa.
However, the car stopped outside the gate. Benjamin held the steering wheel with both hands and turned to look at the woman in the passenger seat. He asked, "Harper, did you persuade Grandpa to agree to the divorce?"
Harper met his eyes and said, "Yes, I did."
"Why?"
"I just think that this is not good for the three of us. Of course, you said that divorce is a matter between the two of us, but I don't want to continue."
She silenced Benjamin.
He was furious.
He opened the door and got out of the car.
Looking at his strong back, Harper's eyes gradually wet, and were eventually covered by tears.
But this was for the best. At least they would get divorced.
He didn't love her, and they were together for other reasons. It was better to break it off as soon as possible.
