Chapter 767 He Looks Like a Big Silly Dog
Chloe quickly withdrew her hand and smiled dryly. "It's just kind of cold. I'm fine."
As if she heard a joke, Zoelle chuckled. “Cold weather doesn’t cause your heart to beat faster."
"Is something bothering you?" Noah asked in concern.
Chloe hung her head and clutched at the photo in her pocket. "No. Must be because of the red light I ran while making my way here."
Zoelle and Noah exchanged glances but did not press further.
Inside the car, Zoelle took a selfie in her new faux fur coat after applying some red lipstick. She exuded the charm of a mature woman with every curve of her lips. "Thank you for the coat. I really like it," she said.
"You're welcome," Chloe replied politely.
She looked Zoelle up and down, wondering how she and Noah knew each other. Zoelle reminded her of Xavia. Xavia appeared to be a gentlewoman on the surface, but unfortunately, it was all an act.
Since Cyrus had approached her, did that mean that she was currently more valuable to him than Xavia? Could Xavia have misunderstood Cyrus' intentions when she threatened Chloe earlier?
Though unable to figure it out for the time being, Chloe guessed that Xavia held the same status in Duskfall as Vanya had. If Xavia could not successfully marry Kenneth, Chloe was certain that Cyrus would abandon her without any hesitation.
They had given Joseph notice before Zoelle arrived. By the time they arrived at Imperium, it was ten at night. From afar, they saw him standing at the entrance, dressed in a black coat that accentuated
his broad shoulders and long legs. His high nose bridge and tightly set lips gave his face an aura of otherworldly charm as if he transcended the mortal world.
In contrast, Vince was wrapped in a military coat. His hair was disheveled and wore a curious and dazed expression. He looked as if he had just gotten out of bed.
"Oh, what a handsome man. I like what I see." Zoelle whistled before looking at Vince. "Why does that one look like a big silly dog?"
Chloe could not see very well, and at first, she felt that Zoelle's comment was inappropriate. But upon getting closer and seeing Vince clearly, she found that he did resemble a silly dog.
Vince stepped forward to greet and scan the three people. After that, he stuck his head into the car and looked around. "Where's Dr. Z?"
"Silly dog," Zoelle commented before getting out of the car.
Vince stuck his head inside the car and looked again. "You brought a dog too? Where is it?"
Chloe sighed and said, "That woman who just got out of the car is Dr. Z."
"Huh? But she's so young, and she's a woman,” Vince said, disbelief thick in his voice.
A hint of skepticism crossed Joseph's eyes, but he did not say anything and led everyone to Vanya. She was awake, albeit her eyes were blank and dull. But when she spotted Noah and Chloe, her expression momentarily froze before returning to a state of confusion. It was as if she had remembered something, only to promptly forget it again.
Though Imperium had their own medical equipment, they could barely keep Vanya alive. After examining Vanya, Zoelle’s expression turned serious.
"The bad news is that her condition is severe. She’s suffering the effects of an ancient poison that has penetrated into her bone marrow over the years. Besides taking medication to alleviate the symptoms, there's no way to cure her completely."
Chloe breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as it can be alleviated, that's enough." All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
She was not a saint, and how long her enemies would live was of no concern to her.
Joseph squinted. "What's the good news?"
"How did you know there was good news? You’re handsome and smart," Zoelle teased, giving him a charming smile. "The good news is that I developed an antidote for this poison last year."
"That's fantastic. Let's start the treatment right away," Vince said excitedly.
Noah piped up, "Zoelle’s my friend. If we are to proceed with the treatment, I'll need to take Vanya with me."
