Chapter 1378
regret on Joseph's part would mend this broken home.
In Joseph's mind, Ruby had no interest in patching things up with him. As for himself, he had long given up on the dream of a picture-perfect family. He was used to flying solo, and even if everything around him crumbled and was rebuilt, he'd still be the same. No amount of James, with a touch of indifference, said, "Let's keep these conversations for after we've pulled it off." He left the study, finding the hall filled with the people he'd gathered.
Harold stood there, glancing up at James, "Everyone's ready. When do we head out?"
"Whenever you are."
James added, "But... you're not coming along."
Harold's eyebrows knitted together, "What do you mean by that?"
"It's just my dad and me going in. I'm counting on you to stand guard outside, Mr. Aldridge."
Harold wasn't thrilled with this setup. With a cold edge to his voice, he said, "Without me, you wouldn't even know where the Aldridge family hid the treasure. Now you're leaving me out? Planning to keep it all to yourself?"
"Not at all. What James is saying is that keeping watch outside is crucial, and you're the best man for the job. Don't worry, once we find the Devonport treasure, you'll get your due."
Joseph moved closer to Harold, giving his shoulder a reassuring pat. "I know you don't want to be forever tagged as the underachieving playboy in your brother's shadow. Once we snag the treasure, you can step up as the new leader of the Aldridge family. Who would dare look down on you then?"Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Joseph's words seemed to sway Harold, who nodded, "Alright, but I want it in writing. You promised me fifty percent, not a cent less."
"Fair enough."
With a slight smile, Joseph glanced over at James, "Is Kiran here yet?"
"Missing me already?" came a voice from the hall.
Kiran strolled in, and the sight of him brought a broad smile to Joseph's face. "I knew you wouldn't miss out on this."
"How could I?" Kiran replied, "Joseph, remember my fifty percent."
Hearing that Kiran also had a claim to fifty percent, Harold's frown deepened, "You too? Joseph, what's the deal?"
"This Devonport treasure doesn't
really tempt me; I've got plenty of cash. I'm just curious to see what all the fuss is about. I'll hand over any gold and silver without keeping a dime."

"James, it's go time."
With that, Joseph led the charge towards Burke Estate. The Aldridge family was off attending Sophie's funeral, leaving Burke Estate completely deserted.
When Joseph, James, and their crew arrived, they found the place abandoned, not a soul in sight.
Joseph frowned, "Colt, take some guys and have a look around. Let's see what's up."
Colt nodded, "Got it."
