Millie’s doe eyes had sparkled with confidence when she had said those words.
“Win?” Joanna called out.
Winston looked up at her. “Huh?”
Joanna could see that he was distracted and felt somewhat upset. “A penny for your thoughts.”
“Nothing, just work stuff,” Winston answered indifferently.
“Oh,” Joanna replied softly. Just as she was about to sit down, she noticed a lipstick mark on Winston’s collar.
She instinctively reached out to touch it. The lipstick mark hadn’t fully dried, so it smudged when she stroked it.
Joanna bit her lip because she remembered Jeremy’s text from earlier that night.
His message read, “Ms. Lowell, Mr. Greer ran into Millie at the restaurant. They…”
Photos of their intimate moments flashed before Joanna’s eyes, causing her to shudder. Winston would rather be close to Millie than to her, and the thought filled her with an intense hatred toward Millie.
Suddenly, Joanna suggested, “Win, shall we have a drink?”
“I drove here, so I better pass on the alcohol, Winston declined.
Joanna tightened her grip on the wine glass. After downing it in one go, she burst into tears. “Win, do you hate me?” Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
Winston couldn’t help but be annoyed by her behavior. “Joanna Lowell!” he roared.
In the next instant, she shattered as if she were a piece of fragile glass. Tears streamed down her face as she approached Winston, demanding, “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t you like me?
“I’d give up everything for you, even my life. Look at this ugly scar I’m left with! But why can’t I earn even a trace of your affection?”
While crying, Joanna began to tear her clothes. She was determined to show Winston the scar on her back.
The fabric was already thin. With just one tug, a large area of her back was revealed.
“Joanna, you’ve had too much to drink,” Winston commented while pulling her dress back up.
But she couldn’t be bothered with it. Pressing herself against Winston, she embraced him and wanted to kiss him.
“Win, I love you… Don’t push me away, okay?” she pleaded repeatedly, adamant about removing her dress.
Joanna could certainly marry into the Greer family if they could do the deed, and she became
pregnant with Winston’s child. She was at her wit’s end. She wanted to win over Winston’s heart so badly.
“Sober up, Joanna!” Winston reminded her.
Yet, Joanna shook her head in response. She couldn’t snap back to reality. “Winston, look at me! Just look at everything I’ve done for you.”
Joanna pointed to the scar on her back, weeping
Winston’s gaze fell on her scar, while his throat tightened with emotion. Time and time again, she had shown him the scar. She constantly reminded him of what he owed her.
In actuality, he didn’t need her constant reminders. After all, he never forgot she had saved him.
For some reason, Winston grew irritated. He then grabbed Joanna’s wrist and dragged her upstairs. He opened the door to her room and pushed her onto the bed before helping her remove her shoes.
“Joanna, go to bed early. Stop acting like a madwoman!” Winston instructed coldly.
⚫ However, Joanna stood up from the bed, crying and yelling. “Why don’t you love me? Why?”
At that point, Winston was truly annoyed. He wanted to find a maid to take care of Joanna, but she clung to him.
She hugged him as tears continued to flow. She shook her head and pleaded, “I’m sorry.. I won’t shout at you anymore. Win, please don’t abandon me.”
Unfortunately, those words struck a chord with Winston. It sounded all too familiar because Millie had said them before.
Suddenly, Winston dragged Joanna to the bathroom, causing her eyes to light up briefly. Was he willing to be intimate with her now?
But in the next second, he hurled her into the bathtub and started to pour ice–cold water over her head.
“Joanna, sober up!” Winston shouted.
His actions rendered Joanna speechless.
