The air was fresh after the moming rain.
Millie arrived at work munching on her breakfast. She heard a few junior nurses gossiping amongst themselves.
“Hey, did you hear? Joanna Lowell attempted suicide last night!”
“For real?”
“Yeah! She got warded. Mr. Greer stayed by her side through the night!”
Millie slowed down and turned to look at the nurses at the nurse station.
Hazel emerged from the nurse station and greeted Millie, “Morning, Dr. Caldwell.”
Millie questioned, “Did Joanna attempt suicide?”
Grunting, Hazel replied, “Indeed, she did. The news has spread.”
Millie couldn’t believe that Joanna would try to take her own life due to Selma’s criticisms. After some consideration, she dropped by the inpatient department at the Department of Neurology.
Right after she emerged from the elevator, she heard some nurses on duty swooning over Winston. Oh, Mr. Greer is so hot. I wish I could date a man like him.”
“It’s not just Mr. Greer. Joanna’s brother is a snack too! I heard he’s even hotter than Mr. Greer. Not only that, he’s a daddy!”
One of the nurses sighed with remorse. “Do you girls think Mr. Greer and Joanna are a good match? Why do I think he makes a great couple with Dr. Caldwell too? I could ship the domineering CEO and our lovely flower for the rest of my life!” This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
Millie, flashed a forlorn smile. Thankfully, she had a fan on her side in the midst of this messy scandal.
“Dr. Caldwell?” Someone discovered her.
Nodding, she inquired politely, “What’s Joanna Lowell’s room number?”
“It’s right in front–No. 2022 VIP suite,” the nurse replied courteously.
Thanking the nurse, Millie made her way to the room. The door was left ajar. Before she could enter the room, she overheard Joanna’s voice from within. ‘Sorry, Win. I troubled you again.”
“Nonsense. No trouble at all. It’s my fault for putting you through that humiliation,” he gently coaxed her, sounding gentler than yesterday when he spoke to her over the phone in his car.
Millie clenched her fist in the pocket of her doctor’s goat. She drew nearer and witnessed the scene in the room–Winston hugging Joanna, who sobbed on his shoulder.
Joanna’s forehead and wrist were bandaged. Her complexion was pallid.
“Win, I’d rather die if I can’t marry you,” she cried in a heart–wrenching manner.
Winston said nothing, only patting her gently on the back.
How did it feel to see her husband comforting his first love? Honestly, Millie was numb to it all.
She was about to leave when she bumped into Logan, who had returned from paying the hospital fees.
He greeted her, “Hi, Ms. Caldwell.“–
She paused and gave him a quick nod before scuttling away.
When Winston poked out, he saw Millie running away in a hurry.
So, Millie was here.
Logan turned to Winston. Winston’s eyes were bloodshot from a sleepless night staying by Joanna’s side. He stayed up, fearing that she might hurt herself again.
Sighing, Logan patted Winston on the shoulder and suggested, “Why don’t you rest at home? I’ll look after Joanna.”
“She’s unstable right now,” Winston cautioned Logan
Logan nodded. “Got it.”
After saying goodbye to Joanna, Winston left. She stared as he walked away with a malicious gleam in her eyes. She realized she needed to play dirty, or she might fail to keep him by her side.
Logan entered the room with a cold expression. “Is it worth hurting yourself for Winston?” “Yes,” she replied without hesitation.
Furrowing his brow, he was reminded of Millie’s grievance last night.
“I was the first to fall in love with and everyone begging me to let go of him?”
