When fate plays its hand

Madison was dumbfounded. Even Audrey couldn’t hide her surprise,

The hospital staff worked efficiently. By noon, Mason was transferred to the VIP ward. Audrey couldn’t help but marvel, “This isn’t our first time at Harrington Hospital, but it’s the first time I knew about the special VIP room that is beyond a regular VIP ward.”

While both wards were for VIP patients, the regular ones were accessible if one had money and good luck to catch an empty room.

Lying in the hospital bed, Mason felt that even the ceiling in this ward seemed more pleasing than the one in the previous room. In addition, the air in the ward was devoid of any trace of hospital disinfectant smell. The furnishings and decor of the room were even on par with a five–star hotel.

Audrey, Madison, and Sebastian were all present. They were able to ask questions and receive input in real–time. Meanwhile, Mason could listen to the entire discussion via the smart conference system from his hospital bed.

The specialists and experts left when the treatment plan was finalized at nightfall.

He ended the call and was about to put his phone away when Madison sidled over to him with a grin. “Are you making more calls?”

“Yes.” Sebastian nodded with a smile.

Madison didn’t ask further. Her mind wasn’t particularly bright when it came to non -academic matters, so she let it go. “Let’s go and eat. Dinner’s here, and my mom sent me to call you over.”

“Alright.”

The meals in the special VIP ward were planned by nutritionists and prepared in a dedicated kitchen before being delivered directly to the ward.

It was late at night by the time Madison and Sebastian returned to the Hill residence. Audrey stayed in the hospital to keep Mason company, but her living conditions had improved significantly compared to the previous day.

The next morning, Audrey’s complexion looked much better when the two arrived back at the hospital. Her spirits were also visibly lifted.

“Madison, Sebastian! You came just in time,” she said. “An elderly gentleman by the name of Arthur Carroll came by earlier. He said he wanted to check on Mason’s pulse and perform acupuncture for him. I wasn’t sure what was going on, so I stalled him and didn’t let him start the procedure…‘

“Yes, he is a famous expert in traditional medicine. He has been caring for the health of the elders in my family for a long time.”

Just the sound of those words carried an immense weight.

They quickly returned to the VIP ward. After Sebastian greeted and introduced

himself, Arthur began administering the acupuncture treatment for Mason.

By that afternoon, Mason could already move his limbs. Audrey was overwhelmed with joy and wept while Madison looked at Sebastian, starry–eyed. “Seb, thank you so much. Without you, I… I wouldn’t have known what to do. You’re the best.”

Sebastian remarked, “So… have you considered repaying me with your hand in marriage?”
