Wooing My Ex-Wife

Chapter 822 Going Smoothly

Chapter 822 Going Smoothly

Charles’ eyes were filled with nothing but disdain, making Whitney feel somewhat embarrassed.

That plan was the result of her pondering all afternoon.

She raised her hand to shield her screen, stuttering, “Um… I-I’m not done yet. This is just a prototype.”

As she spoke, she lacked any hint of confidence. She wasn’t adept at creating proposals, but luckily, Queenie had given her half a month. She still had the opportunity to refine her work.

In that case, Charles didn’t feel like dampening her enthusiasm, simply asking. “Do you plan on sleeping. at the office tonight?” Judging by her demeanor, if I didn’t show up, she might actually spend the night at the office. I really can’t fathom what’s going on in her mind.

Only then did Whitney notice the time. She hadn’t realized it was almost ten in the night.

At that moment, her stomach growled, a blush instantly coloring her neck. Even the tips of her ears turned red.

“Haven’t eaten yet?” asked Charles.

Whitney nodded. If it weren’t for Charles, she wouldn’t have realized it was already past her working - hours.

Seeing that, Charles was somewhat dissatisfied and said coldly, “Pack up and head home.”

Whitney didn’t dare to refuse his request. She quickly saved the draft on her computer, picked up her bag. and followed him out.

His strides were long, so Whitney had to jog to keep up with his pace.

Soon after, his luxury car roared to life, taking off at a speed akin to an arrow released from its bow. Startled, Whitney immediately gripped her seatbelt tightly. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Charles rolled down the car window, letting the cold wind sweep into the car.

Dressed in thin clothing, Whitney felt a chill as the wind blew toward her. She couldn’t help but wrap her arms around herself, silently enduring the cold.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of her lips, which were pale from the cold. Charles’ expression grew even more annoyed.

Slowing down the car, Charles tossed his jacket onto her. Slightly annoyed, he said, “Have you lost your voice? Are you trying to catch a cold?”

The coat he tossed over carried his warmth and a faint tobacco scent. Whitney was about to be moved when his words left her momentarily speechless.

“N-No,” She softly retorted. What if he enjoys the night breeze? I just don’t want to upset him.

“Put it on.” His tone was domineering and indifferent.

Even though Whitney felt uncomfortable, she didn’t say anything.

Once they returned to the Newton residence, he wrapped his arm around her waist, gently pulling her into his embrace as they walked in together.

They returned quite late. Jasmine stepped forward, teasing, “Charles, you’re such a workaholic. You disregard everything when you’re working. Whitney is frail, you know. Do you really have the heart to make her work overtime with you? Look at how pale her face is.”

Realizing Jasmine’s misunderstanding. Whitney quickly clarified, “No, Jasmine, it’s not what Charles came home late because he was keeping me company at work today.”

Upon hearing that, Jasmine revealed an understanding expression and said, “That’s wonderful news! It seems Charles, the typical macho man, has finally learned to cherish his wife.”

Charles tightened his hold around Whitney’s slender waist. “My wife hasn’t eaten yet. Will you take responsibility if you keep delaying her meal and she faints from hunger?”

In front of the Newton family, Charles often generously called Whitney his wife.

Even though Whitney knew he was doing that to deal with the Newton family, she couldn’t help but feel a flutter of excitement in her heart.

At least for that moment, she was his true wife.

“All right, All right, I won’t keep your wife from her meal any longer. Are you happy now? Let me tell you, Charles, showing off your love is disgraceful!” Jasmine made a funny face, then went off to chat with Lucas.

Charles and Whitney ascended the stairs. The moment they entered the room, he let go of her hand.

Whitney also understood and parted ways with him. “Once they’re all asleep, I can make something to eat for myself. I can sleep on the couch tonight so that I won’t disturb your rest.”

“Sleep on the bed,” he said.

The bed it is. Besides agreeing, she couldn’t say anything else.

Charles walked to the side of the bed, dialed the phone downstairs, and ordered, “Bring a bowl of pasta with an egg added up here.”

Hearing that, Whitney couldn’t help but let out a quiet chuckle. The gloom she had felt at the company moments ago was instantly swept away. Sure, he might have a sharp tongue, but he was actually quite kind to her.

The housekeeper quickly brought up the freshly made bowl of pasta. The enticing aroma stirred- Whitney’s appetite. However, due to Charles’ presence. Whitney remained somewhat reserved, eating very slowly.

After having a satisfying meal and drink, Whitney felt a wave of tiredness wash over her. She bathed and went to bed, knowing that Charles wouldn’t return that night. She chose a comfortable position and drifted off to sleep.

Time tended to fly by when one was busy. At first, Whitney found the planning to be a real headache. However, after getting through the toughest initial days, she realized it wasn’t as hard as she thought.

Due to her hard work, the initial proposal acquired some reference value. During the period she was completing the proposal, she also consulted Queenie a few times.

Every time, Queenie was able to offer the most incisive suggestions for her proposal. It was during that period that Whitney grew a lot. Her perspective and knowledge all elevated to a new level.

A group of women were gathered in the logistics department pantry, discussing something after midday rest.

Sissi was the first to speak. “Lana, I’ve noticed Whitney has been frequently visiting Ms. Zeller’s office. these past few days. Do you think she’s trying to get closer to Ms. Zeller through Mr. Turner? Besides, her internship is about to end soon. Won’t she cause more trouble for you in the future?”

Lana scoffed lightly, setting down her cup with a thud. “I won’t let her pass the employee evaluation so easily. Doesn’t she have a project in her hands right now? That’s supposed to represent our logistics department, but I don’t think she has the ability to do it well.”

With a mischievous grin, Lana made her intentions clear. Instantly, the others understood her thoughts and smirked too.

“Good idea, Lana. There’s still time before the deadline. If something were to happen on the night before submission, I wonder what she will do,” someone uttered.

Meanwhile, Whitney sneezed several times at her workstation.

Knock knock.

Someone tapped on her desk. Whitney looked up to see Queenie. She quickly stood up and asked, “Can I help you with something?”

“Come to my office.”

Upon entering the office, Queenie handed her several printed documents, saying, “These are some of the proposals I made at my previous company, including proposals for the logistics department. You can look through them to see if you can extract any ideas for yourself.”

Whitney was taken aback by Queenie’s unexpected care for her. She quickly bowed. “Thank you for your consideration, Ms. Zeller. I will work hard and won’t let you down!”

Queenie revealed a rare smile, waving. “Go on with your work. If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to come back and ask me.”

“Thank you!”

A look of gratitude filled Whitney’s face as she walked out joyfully.

Queenie watched Whitney’s figure for a long time before finally shifting her gaze.

She saw her younger self in Whitney, back when she just started her career in the professional world. Back then, she was also an inconspicuous intern, looked down upon by everyone.

Without her encounter with her benefactor, she wouldn’t have made it that far in Newton Group.
