Wooing My Ex-Wife

Chapter 823 The Incident Before The Meeting

Chapter 823 The Incident Before The Meeting

Bolstered by Queenie’s expectations, Whitney was more motivated in her work and no longer felt lost.

However, she was spotted by the few when she went to the Queenie’s office. Annoyed, Sissi pretended to pick up a file and went over to Lana’s side.

“Lana, look. Whitney is off to see the Queenie again. She must have pulled some kind of trick. Otherwise, why would the Queenie only want to see her?”

Watching Whitney’s smug expression, Lana gritted her teeth, silently formulating a proposal.

The deadline was fast approaching, yet Whitney was still meticulously refining the final proposal.

This time, she was determined to prove those who looked down on her wrong. More importantly, she wanted to make the Queenie proud, to show the latter that it was right to have faith in her.

As the end of the workday approached, Whitney finally finished revising the final version. Brimming with confidence, she hit the save button.

The next day was when the final presentation was due. The proposal would surely make the logistics. department stand out among the company’s other departments.

Although she couldn’t guarantee that it was the best proposal, Whitney was still very confident in her own proposal.

Having packed her things, Whitney left.

The next morning, Whitney arrived at the company early. She planned to carefully review the proposal once more, making sure there were no errors before sending it to Queenie.

But when she turned on her computer in excitement, she found that all the files on her computer had disappeared.

To ensure that no mistakes were made, she even backed up her files on the cloud. Right then, even the files on the cloud were gone.

The computer, the USB drive, and the cloud storage were all empty. Everything she had saved was gone.

She had clearly checked everything thoroughly last night.

Just then, the sound of high heels echoed through the air.

“You’re quite early today, Whitney. How’s your project proposal coming along? We’re about to start the all- staff meeting soon. You won’t let us down, will you?”

Whitney looked up, meeting Lana’s triumphant gaze.

It must be her. Recently, Lana hasn’t given me any trouble. She’s probably just waiting for this day to see me make a fool of herself. If I mess up this time, I might even be asked to leave. Finishing the probation would be out of the question.

Although she had her suspicions, Whitney, without any evidence, could only stare at Lana in silence.

Lana chuckled lightly, putting on an innocent facade as she shrugged. “All the best, Whitney, I believe you won’t let me down.”

After Lana swaggered away in her high heels, the tightly clenched fist of Whitney gradually loosened.

She glanced at the time. It was eight in the morning, while the meeting was at ten. There was simply no time to prepare another proposal.

What should I do? I’ve botched the first important task Ms. Zeller has ever entrusted to me. How could she ever trust me with another one? Forget it! Let’s give it a shot!

Whitney tried her best to stay calm, recalling the proposal she had completed last night.

At half past nine, the rest of the logistics department was already preparing to attend the meeting. Only Whitney was still relentlessly typing away at her keyboard.

Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, but she had no time to wipe them off.

When Queenie stepped out of the office and saw Whitney still typing, she walked over.

“Where is your project proposal? Why haven’t you sent it to me yet?”

The sound of Queenie’s voice echoed in Whitney’s ears. With a slight tremble of her hand, she stood up instantly, like a child who had done something wrong.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Zeller. I’ve messed up. Someone tampered with my computer last night and all the files are gone. I’ve tried every possible way to recover them, but all attempts have failed.”

At that point, she could only admit her mistake upfront. Blaming someone else would be an unwise decision.

Queenie paused for a moment, patted Whitney’s shoulder, and said, “Let’s go to the meeting first.”

Did Ms. Zeller just calmly asked me to attend the meeting?

Whitney couldn’t believe it. She had imagined all sorts of scenarios where the Queenie would lose his temper, but she never expected the Queenie to react that way.

When Whitney hadn’t caught up with her, Queenie paused and turned around. “Aren’t you coming? Do you want to be late and get scolded again?”

Given that Queenie had spoken, Whitney hurriedly followed.

Every last month of each quarter, Newton Group would hold a general staff meeting. The number of Newton Group employees attending the meeting was in the thousands at least.

Charles sat on the stage, his deep blue eyes filled with indifference, occasionally casting a casual glance at the employees attending the meeting.

At nine-fifty-five, almost everyone attending the meeting had arrived. Isaac handed the tuned microphone to Charles.

Everyone held their breath in anticipation, waiting for the CEO’s speech.

As Whitney looked at Charles, her eyes were filled with admiration.

For a man as exceptional as him, his future other half would also be someone equally exceptional. –

Just as she was lost in thought, Charles’s gaze suddenly turned toward her. Whitney instantly lowered her head, feeling a bit guilty about the project proposal.

“Look, Mr. Newton is looking this way!” Lana cried out in excitement.

She immediately started to preen and pose, putting on a charming expression as if Charles was about to call out her name at any second.

“Next, each department will present their respective summaries and goals for the next quarter, starting with the finance department.”

After Isaac finished speaking, the head of the finance department stood up, and a series of summaries and proposals from the finance department began to play on the big screen.

“The finance department…”

The folks in the finance department were engaged in a lively discussion, but Whitney simply didn’t have the interest to listen.

What should I do when we get to their logistics department later? Should I admit my negligence in front of everyone?

Lana noticed Whitney’s worried expression and said insidiously, “Whitney, you’ve been visiting the Queenie’s office quite frequently lately. With all the attention you’ve received from the Queenie, I’m sure your proposal must be very impressive. I can hardly wait to see you present on behalf of the logistics department. If this proposal is successful, you can rightfully stay in the company. Let me congratulate you in advance.”

Although the words were congratulatory, Whitney didn’t see a hint of genuine joy on Lana’s face. Instead, she the latter wore a look of schadenfreude.

Isn’t she just looking forward to seeing me make a fool of myself? I’m not going to let her have her way.

Amidst her anxiety, Whitney suddenly figured out her next move.

One department after another presented their reports, and soon it was the turn of the logistics department.

Charles’s gaze fell on her once again, eagerly anticipating her proposal.

As the head of the logistics department, Queenie bore full responsibility for any mistakes made within her department.

She was the first to stand up. Bowing deeply toward Charles, she said, “Mr. Newton, I am unable to submit the logistics department’s proposal. I take full responsibility. Please punish me as you see fit.”

Upon hearing that, Whitney’s expression instantly turned frantic. She stood up and admitted, “Mr. Newton, this has nothing to do with Ms. Zeller. It was my negligence for pot properly saving the project proposal which led to the loss of the document. If you want to punish someone, punish me.”

It was my mistake to begin with. Ms. Zeller shouldn’t have to take the blame for me.

As Queenie had helped her a lot during her time there, Whitney absolutely couldn’t let the former be dragged down by the matter.Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
