Chapter 810
Carson shook his head as he took out more medicine.
"No wonder you needed some kind of skin disinfectant! Women are timid and spoiled! But that's also why they're so cute! I'll just inject one for now, and give her some medicine. She should get better at night. If her fever doesn't go down today, I'll change the medicine tomorrow to stabilize her for another two or three days. There's nothing much to worry about!"
"Okay, thank you!"
"For the precious, fine wine you had Holger passed to me last night, it's worth the trip! As for the medicine, just follow the instructions written on them!"
How could a hundred thousand dollars worth of fine wine be of equal value as a mere treatment for a cold?
After packing up, Carson smiled and put his hand on Trevor's shoulder.
He looked at the bed as he said in a low voice, "Hey, why so serious? I've never seen you being so anxious towards a woman before."
Since the two brothers got married, the private house visits that he had to attend to had significantly increased. Come to think of it, it was a real headache for him! He finally got a day off and was ready to sleep in!
Trevor rolled his eyes and swatted his hand away. "She's my wife!"
Did he not have a brain? How could he ask such an idiotic question! If he weren't anxious for his wife, was he supposed to be anxious for other men's wives?
"I get it, I get it! Cook some porridge or some nutritious food to eat for my pretty sister-in-law! She might find everything to be tasteless and may even lose her appetite, but it'll be better for her to eat more when she's like this. She needs the strength to fight the sickness!"
"Got it!"
After seeing Carson off, Trevor sat down by the bed and wiped her forehead with a towel.
That morning, Trevor had to change an important meeting into a virtual meeting in the study room. After listening in for more than half an hour, he anxiously glanced at the time.
"Okay, stop arguing. Let's take ten! Bring it up again once it is confirmed!"
He turned off the computer, got up, and quickly returned to the room. When he entered the room, he saw that the caretaker had pulled out the needle, while Victoria had sat up in bed.
"Vicky, you're awake? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" Trevor touched her forehead and felt relieved to find that she wasn't sweating anymore.
"Why are you still here? I'm fine... I'm just a little tired!" Victoria knocked on her head as she felt weak and dizzy. Her head felt heavy and her legs strengthless. She felt uncomfortable, but it was tolerable.
Trevor held her in his arms, and took her hand in his.
"It's okay. You probably caught a cold after taking so many showers yesterday. You'll be fine once you recover. Are you hungry? I had someone cook some porridge for you. There's sweet fruit porridge and salty vegetable porridge. You'll be full of energy after having some!"
"Okay."
A small smile tugged at Victoria's dry lips as she decided not to overexert herself. After the servant brought a bowl of porridge upstairs, she grudgingly took a few spoonfuls of it. Seeing his suit and leather shoes, she knew that he was very busy and did not want to keep here for too long.
"I want to sleep for a while. Go do your work! It's
just a cold, and I have the help to take care of me. You don't have to worry! Don't tire yourself because of me..."
During that period of time, she kept holding him back - whether it was at home or at the company. She could feel his exhaustion. Victoria raised her hand and caressed his chin.
"Take breaks and eat well. Don't worry about me too much, I'm an adult!"
"Okay!"
Trevor's heart ached with pity at how sensible she was. He helped her lie down, and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Sleep well. I'll be in the study. Call me whenever you need anything!"
Trevor remembered that Carson also said to let her have plenty of rest. He caressed her hair and tucked her in. After he heard her steady breathing and gave his instruction to the help, he tiptoed out of the room.
Victoria's cold came and went for a few days. In the middle of the night, she sweated and often mumbled in her sleep. She felt pretty bad over the next few days and had to stay home to recuperate.
Fortunately, she was able to think clearly again, so her work was not delayed.
That day, she amended the final
draft of her design, sent samples of clothes to clients, and even made a whole simulated diagram. After her final discussion, her concerns came to an end. Once the draft was approved, she was very confident that the manufacturing of the final product could begin.
She couldn't guarantee that the customized design would be perfect, but as long as the draft was approved, the execution of the draft would not be a problem for her.
She got up and stretched her body. Victoria was in a good mood as she watched the golden sunshine illuminate the outside of her window.
She put on a loose, thick coat and went downstairs.
She wandered around the yard and fed the rabbits. She then went to see Shirley. After wandering around the garden, she went back to her room. After that one last day of rest, she could go back to the company!
Indeed, illnesses came like a tidal wave, but left like molasses in January. She finally felt as good as new.
As soon as she walked to the door, she saw a help carrying a large, exquisitely packaged white box. There was even a beautiful bowknot tied on one
side.
"What is this?"
"Young Madam, the postman just delivered this, saying it's for you! Your name and contact number are stated here, but the sender asked for it to be kept a secret, saying it's a surprise for you! I heard that he received the order near Master Trevor's office. Look at how
exquisite this box is. It's quite
weighty too. Could it be from MasterContent (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
Trevor?"
Tilting her head, Victoria glanced at the pink tulip drawn on the side of the box - her favorite flower!
"Bring it in! Let's open it and have a look!"
She lifted the box and found that it was indeed heavy. "It's so big. It can't be a cake, can it? But it's not my birthday!"
Instead of asking the help to send it to the room, she asked her to place it on the table in the living room. The servant then brought an unboxing cutter over. Since she didn't know what it was and was afraid that it was something too personal, Victoria stretched her hand out.
"Let me!" She told the help.
With a glance, the servant gave her an understanding smile, then put down the cutter and took a few steps back.
Excited, Victoria carefully opened the box. The white box was tightly sealed. Once opened, she saw that inside were layers of exquisite pink-white paper, with a flower knot tied at the opening.
She was absolutely thrilled to be opening presents. She put down the cutter and started opening it.
As soon as the pinkish-white papers
were taken out layer by layer, what
came into sight was a miserably
dead rabbit covered in blood. Its flesh was badly mutilated and its white fur was stained with dried blood. The stomach was cut open, and its internal organs had fatten out She could almost see its heart vaguely beating. Its smallmouth was wide open and its eyes were bulging. With such a disgusting and terrifying thing right before her eyes, Victoria stood there stunned for a long time, unable to utter a word.
She felt like her heart had exploded and her body was on the verge of crumbling. She let out a scream and the next second everything went black as
"Ah-"
she leaned backwards.
