Chapter 750 Wasting Money
Chapter 750 Wasting Money
Sheldon pondered for a moment and replied, “Not really. We haven't seen each other much since that day. I heard her childhood friend was attacked with sulfuric acid, and she's been busy taking care of her in the hospital.”
Given Judy's radical personality, Tobias sensed that the situation was likely more complicated than it appeared. He was worried that Judy's impulsive nature might lead her to confront Skylar, which was something he wanted to avoid at all costs.
Sheldon cleared his throat before replying, “Tobias, you care for Judy so much. Are you interested in her? While she does have commendable qualities, she can be a bit naive. Although it may be uncomfortable to hear, I must inform you that Skylar's apparent cluelessness is just a front, whereas Judy's innocence is genuine.”
Tobias was taken aback by Sheldon's audacity in making such a statement. It was bold of him to criticize others' intelligence.
After the holiday ended, the highly anticipated film season officially concluded. Unfortunately, the film The Ballad of 1978 experienced a catastrophic failure, leaving Marcus utterly bewildered.
Despite the support provided by Tobias, the film's box office performance failed to meet expectations. After Marcus got his men to compute the finances, he realized that even the production costs couldn't be recovered. It was a disappointing outcome for his debut film.
Xander summoned Marcus to his house and immediately launched into a scathing rebuke. “Did you use the money from the company? What were you thinking? Instead of focusing on other ventures, you insisted on investing millions into a film. All the money is gone now! And worse still, the film did not have any significant impact!”
Marcus was aware of the financial loss and didn't feel inclined to argue with his father about it. He maintained a positive attitude and admitted, “I lacked experience the first time, but I'll learn from this and do better in the future. It was my mistake to trust the director and misjudge the market demand. I take full responsibility.”
With a heavy heart, Xander let out a deep sigh as he faced the painful reality that both Ingrid and Marcus were ill-suited and incapable of taking over his business. Despite the countless resources, time, and effort he had poured into their development, they were incompetent to take over his business.
In contrast, Tobias possessed exceptional talents that were undeniable, but he obstinately refused to acknowledge Xander as his father.
The company was currently grappling with poor management, and the situation had worsened due to Marcus' actions. Many of their businesses were operating at a loss, intensifying the company's financial struggles. The company found itself unable to pay the employees' salaries. The frustrated workers, who had not received payment for several months, were starting to protest by making their grievances heard and demanding immediate resolution.
The company's future seemed uncertain, and Xander couldn't help but worry about how long he could hold on. He knew that sooner or later, he might have to humble himself and seek Tobias' assistance to help the company overcome its mounting difficulties.
Ingrid stared at Marcus and taunted, “I warned you from the start. You should have known better than to pick Skylar as the female lead. She's nothing but bad luck, a poison to the box office. If only you had chosen someone else, we wouldn't be in this mess.”
Despite the criticism, Marcus didn't blame Skylar for the film's poor performance. He had personally watched the movie and recognized its weak storyline. Skylar, on the other hand, had diligently fulfilled her role and devoted herself to the project.
There were no noticeable flaws in her acting skills or delivery of lines. Even though Marcus was a relative outsider to the film industry, he could tell that Skylar's performance had been impeccable. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
The film's disappointing box office performance could be attributed to its poor production quality. It was evident that the director lacked fundamental storytelling techniques. Yet, he had the nerve to cause a stir on Twitter.
It was no wonder Skylar remained silent the entire time. Other members of the cast, including the male lead, were promoting the director's Twitter posts, but Skylar chose to play dumb and act as if nothing had happened.
Furthermore, he deeply regretted his decision to cast Ingrid as the supporting actress. Regardless of his own reluctance to admit it, he believed his sister was simply not cut out for the spotlight. Ingrid would have been better off leading a peaceful life at home, considering her unappealing appearance. However, she stubbornly insisted on pursuing an acting career and appearing in films.
Skylar was in McDonald's trying out the new menu when she received a call from Marcus.
The endorsement deal with McDonald's had been secured well in advance, but the film's catastrophic performance had fallen far short of the investors' expectations.
The company had initially prepared numerous press releases and promotional materials to highlight Skylar's achievements. However, in light of the film's failure, they had to revise their marketing strategy and adjust their future publicity plans.
